Could you please clarify where trans people were being mocked in the threads you've just deleted? Also, is mocking someone not allowed on MN anymore? In this case, could we have an update of the rules for FWR to make this clear? Would appreciate your thoughts!

You might get a better response by starting a thread on site stuff

I’d like to know the answers though

Tropicaldi · 14/06/2023 16:46

That was very sad. A bit of light-hearted fun an camaraderie on FWR. That used to BE the spirit of mumsnet.

Tropicaldi · 14/06/2023 16:49

Which threads apart from the heatwave one were deleted? Did anyone at HQ give a warning on the threads first or did they zap them without a word?

PickAChew · 14/06/2023 16:51

Surely the thread was mocking pointless work missives.

DeanElderberry · 14/06/2023 17:21

The thread about whether or not there have always been trans people got zapped too (answer btw , if that means transgender, is no, not least because no-one had a gender before 1970 [if then]).

It's the same pattern as at Easter, vexatious complaints made in an attempt to close down discussion, and in particular to prevent people having friendly and humourous interaction. Nothing was said that was offensive - maybe old-fashioned (pre 2020s), but respect across the generations needs to go both ways.

Maybe there really are some people out there who don't understand how conversation works - if so, I suspect they are very young.

Zapped without warning. I knew my follow up would go as a TAAT, but that deletion actually gave mocking trans people as one of the reasons.

@MNHQ any chance you could address my questions? Thanks!

I posted a light hearted thread about Sam Smith and it was deleted recently saying "the thread in it's entirety isn't quite what we're about. Peace and love"

funnelfan · 15/06/2023 00:06

I assumed new intern being over zealous with the delete button. Maybe the heat has made MNHQ cranky.

OP, I believe there isn’t actually an MNHQ account with the @ tag you’ve used, so while the moderation team obviously read everything posted here, they ain’t gonna respond and site stuff is where you’ll have to ask. Not sure it’s worth it for the snarky comments you’ll get from non FWR regulars.

Hi OP

We work really hard to host a place for this discussion. It isn't without its challenges. For that reason, if a post is uncivil and not constructive to the debate, we need to consider whether it has a place on the boards.

You can read our moderation policy on this topic here:

Disappointed but not surprised.

A site started with women in mind prioritises men.

Have a day off.

Not allowing piss taking of trans men (women) on that particular thread isn't "prioritising men".

Not allowing piss taking of any minority group isn't "prioritising men" either.

It really isn't me who needs to take a day off. You are far too tetchy and unpleasant on many, many threads. Go out and enjoy the sunshine.

Hate that peace and love line- also recently used on a thread about paedos - we should be showing them peace and love ? Never quite got to the bottom of that.

MinnieEgg · 15/06/2023 12:26

You are definitely allowed to mock people who have over a certain amount of money but I don't know what that amount is as MN didn't clarify the amount.

Just that they encouraged it.

Tropicaldi · 15/06/2023 12:32

Do MNHQ have any way of auditing their mods and who does what?

It undermines the trust in the site’s security if harmless, and totally typical threads get zapped without warning. It gives the impression that there are activists who have hacked the site and can log in. Would HQ have any way of knowing if it was hackers doing deletions, not their own staff? Or if activists had infiltrated the staff by looking at the activity log?

Tropicaldi · 15/06/2023 12:34

Thanks for posting @LilyMumsnet - is it possible if you could let us know about my above post please - I should have addressed it to you.

Says the person sulking about "prioritising men" when they were doing no such thing?

Tropicaldi · 15/06/2023 12:41

The thread I was on had no piss-taking out of trans identified people at all. People were mocking people with silly jobs sending out silly internal memos across their organisations. There was also a lot of awareness raising going on, I started to understand all the different people suffering in the heat, and in fact how being female comes with its own bag of issues. I had a baby in the hot summer and being 9 months pregnant in a heatwave is no joke! But everyone was bonding over it with humour.

I can only think that it may have offended men who may have felt left out of the female bonding.
