Using threads on mn social media ads

I really don’t think it’s “in the spirit of the site” to post people’s threads on Facebook.

People come here for anonymous advice. It’s bad enough that news outlets pick up popular threads, but to feel that mn themselves are actively publicising them is very unpleasant.

Yes, I’m aware it’s a public forum, but I don’t think people are aware that their posts could be used as ads on Facebook.

I’m sure that it’s in the small print, just wanted to voice my discomfort at it.

Hello @Hazelnuttella we share some threads to our social media channels that we think people will be interested in and/or find useful and engaging. We won't share threads that are sensitive, distressing or overly personal.

Mumsnet is a public forum, searchable by Google, legally linkable and quotable by all. On the upside, this openness means volume of users and volume of users means Mumsnet is available for free to anyone who needs advice 24-7. It also means fresh faces, a variety of points of view, and the wisdom that comes from a very sizeable crowd (which, as an aside, tends to mean that wrong or misguided advice doesn't stand unchallenged). But it's definitely worth being a bit circumspect with identifiable stuff when you are posting.

Please also bear in mind that we're an anonymous platform and MNers can change their username if they have privacy concerns.
