Troll hunting

Please can someone explain what this means?

Been closely following a thread (DD sepsis) but it's been taken down for troll hunting. Does this mean people didn't believe the OP and were getting nasty or that Mumsnet think the OP is making it up?

OP posts:

Could be either. They might check it out and reinstate it if they have had reports but it turns out to be true. If it is nonsense it will stay deleted.

XelaM · 20/05/2023 12:27

That poster was genuine with other previous posts on MN, but crazy people kept accusing her of not being real.

RafaistheKingofClay · 20/05/2023 12:28

Troll hunting makes it sound like it was the troll hunters not the op that were the problem.

The problem is you can’t post a thread like that on MN without half the site accusing you of trolling whether you are or not.

FernGully43 · 20/05/2023 12:28

Are threads actually reinstated? I can't say I've ever seen one come back

From time to time they are but not often

RafaistheKingofClay · 20/05/2023 12:29

I have seen one come back but by that point I don’t think the OP ever came back to it. Or MN tbh.

BSB30 · 20/05/2023 12:29

The OP of that thread really needed the support on there too. She was using it as a diary also. I don't think it's fair for Mumsnet to just take it down.

XelaM · 20/05/2023 12:30

I would ban all "troll hunters" who are usually trolls themselves

FernGully43 · 20/05/2023 12:30

Ok thanks, good to know there's a chance it'll come back. Feel sad for op who was using it as a support

tribpot · 20/05/2023 12:31

I do wonder why there isn't a suspension for troll hunters @XelaM - it's not allowed on the boards yet people seem to do it at will?

ThimbleThimble · 20/05/2023 12:33

Threads like that almost always end up getting deleted. They always follow the same trajectory. I'm not saying that I think the OP was a troll but rather the actions of others on the thread mean that deletion is often inevitable.

FernGully43 · 20/05/2023 12:36

The thread is back for op. Thankfully

Bramblecrumble22 · 20/05/2023 12:38

She kept talking about deleating because she didn't want to be discovered irl. So she had to sift through crap to read support when she is exhausted. I don't think it was actually doing her any good. She was doing an amazing job btw if you are reading this.

Prescottdanni123 · 21/05/2023 09:27

Thankfully this thread was brought back and mumsnet posted a comment essentially bollocking the people who posted nasty comments on the thread about the OP being a troll.

Winterisalmostover · 21/05/2023 12:32

Thread 2 is full, but I can't find a third. Can anyone help with the title as I want to support this mother and DD with the other helpful MNs.

OrangeBlossom28 · 21/05/2023 12:36

@Winterisalmostover she may not have started a new thread yet or even might not at all. I have been following too.

Yes. I appreciate that. I think we are all so invested in her DDs progress and arming ourselves with information in case we face a similar situation with our loved ones.

OrangeBlossom28 · 21/05/2023 12:42

@Winterisalmostover I completely agree and have been following with my heart in my mouth at times.
