why can't I PM someone?

Just tried to send a pm to someone on a thread and it won't let me. It comes up as user name unknown.

I double checked and I can PM other people on the thread with no problem.

Can people set their settings so they can't receive PMs?

Hi @steppemum - we're not sure why this is happening but we're happy to check things out behind the scenes. Could you please either report this thread or mail us at [email protected] and let us know the name of the person you're trying to message so we can take a closer look.

Hi again - we've responded to your mail behind the scenes by now, but just wanted to answer your query here as well.

You asked whether people can change their settings so they don't receive PMs - yes, they can. If you go to your Talk Settings page and scroll down, you'll see the Private Message header where you can choose to block PMs. If someone has this box ticked, you won't be able to send them a PM and will instead get the message 'The selected recipient username is invalid'.

Sorry you won't be able to send a PM on this occasion. Could you maybe say something nice on the thread itself?
