Disappearing sodding keyboard again

JarByTheDoor · 19/04/2023 12:28

Mobile site, Chrome, Android phone. Started up again today or last night, only happening on MN, no other sites.

This problem comes back every few months — Mumsnet has been having this issue on and off for years, now. You're typing away, and the mobile keyboard suddenly disappears. Might happen once or twice when trying to type out a post, especially on the full stops. Might happen when you pause to think for a moment or when you highlight something. Might happen
every
sodding
word.

Either way, each time it happens you risk either accidentally hitting the post button, or navigating away and losing your post, or you just find it's impossible to get through typing an entire post because it's DRIVING YOU INSANE. It's happened about twenty bloody times just typing this.

For my mental wellbeing, and that of anyone else experiencing this incredibly irritating bug, please, please, do whatever it is you usually do to fix this.

Thanks!

I'm using standard Gboard with no add-ons or external assistants, on a Xiaomi phone running MIUI on Android, no recent relevant updates as far as I can tell, and definitely no Grammarly. Thanks for checking.

Hi OP

We know you probably have done this, but can you clear your cache and your mumsnet cookies at the same time? And then ensure that your browser is up to date?

Cleared cache and cookies again (urgh back to pale mode again), and there was actually a Chrome update pending, funnily enough, which I hadn't checked… have done those all at once (and also rejected all possible cookies from MN this time) and for now, it seems to be working… I both love and hate it when this happens 🤣 Thanks for your help! I'm mystified as to why it's always and only MN this happens to me on tho.

Keeping everything crossed that this is it now, and it will remain sorted. Keep us updated and thanks so much for trying all of the suggestions. Flowers
