Being Thick-But How Do You Do A "Link"?

FimboCLAUS · 08/12/2004 10:19

Sorry to all you people out there who probably think it is really easy, but I am baffled by the mums net explanation as to how to create a link. Could someone please explain in plan English how to do say a link to Argos or Toys R Us.
Thanks
Fimbo

you need to type

\ link { www.toysrus.com \ TOYS R US LINK }

Without the spaces, if I put it without the spaces then it would turn into a link !

NomDePlumPudding · 08/12/2004 10:23

The url is the web address of the page you want to link to. It's easiest to copy and paste the address directly from the browser address bar and paste it into the 'url' section.

description is how you want your link to appear on the thread, ie what it's 'title' is.

SantaFio2 · 08/12/2004 10:25

cant explain it better than NDP

NomDePlumPudding · 08/12/2004 10:32

Actually that is probably just as confusing as the MN explaination for you. Here is a step by step....

STEP 1
Open the page you want to link to in a new browser window.

STEP 2
Go back to your Mumsnet thread and type \link{

STEP 3
Revert to your other window with the page you want to link to.

STEP 4
Copy the entire url (www.etc etc address) from the 'address' bar in your browser window, using the 'copy and paste function'

STEP 5
Paste the address into your MN post, immediately next to \link{ leaving no spaces

STEP 6
Type \ immediately after the pasted www. address, and then add the 'name' of your link (such as Fimbo's Link) and finish by typing a }

Sorry if that's a bit 'Noddy' for you !

Think I should start paying you for some computer lessons NDP! Smile

This is what happens after being a sahm for 5 years - Email was a curious new invention when I was last at work. Internet was away in the distant future, oh the days of a manual typewriter and tippex correction fluid Grin
