Request for additional functionality: OP can insert an update post directly under the OP in their own threads.

I understand the option not to let an OP change the thread opening post because it can lead to people rewriting the whole thing and then it doesn't make sense with all the subsequent replies.

But I think it would be really useful for the OP to have the option to insert an UPDATE style post which would sit directly under the opening post - ie the first reply spot - but would be clearly labeled an update.

It could be used to quickly show an update or resolved issue. But more usefully it could be used to quickly explain to the type of poster who will not simply read through all the OP updates and is misinterpreting or not understanding the basics of the thread.

Current Mother's Day post is a prime example.

OP would be able to make it quite clear in her Update that the MIL was getting to see OP and her grandchildren later in the day, as well as clearing up all the other points which have been misconstrued over and over again.

Sure some people would still slip through the cracks but I think most would read an OP and a clearly marked OP UPDATE before replying.

Would make a lot of threads a lot saner.

Hi OP

Thanks so much for the suggestion - we'll have a chat about this. We do have the 'see all posts by OP' option- but we see where you're coming from and it's a good idea! We'll keep an eye on the thread too, to see if there's a high level of interest.

I also think this is a great idea and ive seen many people post about how this would be a useful function. So many posters misinterpret the opening OP then continue to argue throughout the thread. Then many other posters will jump on the same argument and completely misinterpret it too. Would be so much better if an update highlighting the misinterpretation can be pinned to avoid the thread being derailed by lazy arsed people who have shit reading comprehension and don't bother reading updates

I think that's a great idea. Drives me nuts when 10 pages into a thread someone replies only to the OP & miss the updates & how the thread as moved on

PlateBilledDuckyPerson · 10/03/2023 23:40

I would like this too.

SheilaFentiman · 10/03/2023 23:46

Or… and hear me out… we could banish people who don’t read all OP posts before posting to a tiny island with Nigel Farage, and confiscate their Gin

SheilaFentiman · 10/03/2023 23:46

(Seriously, though, this is a great idea)

DramaAlpaca · 10/03/2023 23:49

Good idea
