Estate planning and wills

I would like to suggest a topic for a MN web chat. Could we have one about estate and IHT planning and will writing. With a proper, qualified estate planner? There are so many sad stories on MN about the fall out when people either don't make wills, don't update their will, or get bad advice when writing their will. TIA

Hi there,
We can certainly add it to the webchat list for consideration. Let's have a think about it, thanks for the suggestion!

It’s difficult because each situation is so different and nuanced. It’s not a case of “this is the right thing to do and if you do it everything will be ok” it’s utterly client dependent. My fear is this could cause more harm than good.

Plus if it goes anywhere near giving people legal advice about their own circumstances there is a liability issue. Sensible adults seek their own advice to put their affairs in order.

I have watched some excellent videos with general info on various scenarios. Always backed up by the need to get qualified advice.
People just have no idea about basic stuff. A marriage invalidates a will for example.
