The "search for messages" facility is a PITA............

........because you get a list of results, right?, and so you read the first one but then you can't use the back button, you get a "can't display the page" page, and if you try "refresh" your original search has disappeared.
Hope I make sense, not missing something am I?

Or you can do refresh and then retry.

I can go back too. Are you sure you're not already opening it in a new window, which is why there is no 'back'?
