have any decisions been made

We're going to do some quick fixes based on folks' suggestions in the next couple of days hopefully:

  • Members can only post an ad or on an ad thread if they signed up for CATs
  • For sale and wanted will both link to landing pages with further links to categories
  • Threads to be listed by date/time of OP so aren't bumped up list even when new post added
  • Forsale and wanted threads won't appear on active conversations

We'll make these changes in the next few days and see how we go. If they don't improve things then we'll look at doing something more fundamental/ drastic - either a tech solution or a pull it altogether solution.

Cheers,
MNHQ

Just fyi for them as is waiting, it will prob be early next week before these changes go live.

Justine what about us regulars that don't have debit/credit card to pay CAT? Will we be able to pay by paypal?

JustineMumsnet · 06/02/2008 23:02

Will check with Tech but don't see why we shouldn't be able to set this up.

Hnybnch · 06/02/2008 23:38

Oh that would be great thanks Justine

Also I would happily volunteer to kind of "police" for sale? I know a lot(not all) of the dodgy characters and names they've used on here and various sites, I kind of made a hobby out of selling my kids stuff for bigger sizes and made some(trusted) friends in the meantime!

Please feel free to email me @

[email protected]

Thanks

Whats CAT please?? I've heard of it but not what it actually is.. and given that it sounds like i'm going to need it to carry on posting.. what is it lol??

And what are landing sites??

controlfreakyagain · 06/02/2008 23:43

it's the same old same old..... see here
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1910/473071?stamp=080206223604

sl4634 · 06/02/2008 23:44

what do you mean?

controlfreakyagain · 06/02/2008 23:48

i mean that the sale boards are still full of threads making allegations against sellers / for sale threads not actually selling anything / general drama that gives the site a bad name. that's what i mean.

sl4634 · 07/02/2008 00:36

yeah i agree with that. can u tell me how i sign up for CATS?

Tech · 07/02/2008 02:31

Hi, SL, at the top of this page there's a "contact a mumsnetter" link in the blue bar. If you click that, you get to the signup page.

BexieID · 07/02/2008 03:10

I hope these changes will mean I spend less time on Mumsnet, lol. I've noticed the date/time thing already. That wasn't pleasing to my eyes at this time of the morning!

Why do CATs take ages to come through?

I hate colds! Can't stop coughing! Have had to come on the net as I don't want to disturb DF or Tom, who is clearly full of snot himself!

mumofdjandp · 07/02/2008 09:30

For sale and wanted will both link to landing pages with further links to categories - what do you mean by this justine (sorry being dim)?

Also if you check the feedback forum I have sold and bought loads with no probs atall (mumofdjandp) and would LOVE to help police (is that the word?) the boards if you need some help? I really would love to help!

krissyandchris @ tiscali.co.uk

JustineMumsnet · 07/02/2008 09:37

It means for sale and wanted will be split into subject categories eg pushchairs, cloth nappies, so it's easier to find what you're looking for.

Thanks for the offers of moderation - we're not going down that route right now but may do in the future if these changes don't make a difference.

CountessDracula · 07/02/2008 09:43

Justine I saw a comment on a thread over there that people will just post their advert multiple times if they can't bump it up. I think it should be made clear at the top of the selling page that this is unacceptable and people should be banned from buying/selling if they do this. Whaddayareckon?

OP posts:
Flier · 07/02/2008 09:47

Krissy & Hnybnch, of course we can surely self police? If we see any suspicious looking posters or scammers etc, then ask questions to alert people to it?

mumofdjandp · 07/02/2008 09:53

No No No

I want to have a position of power

about time too! HA HA

only kidding

Hnybnch · 07/02/2008 10:13

Lol Krissy, we can "self police" like Flier said then if changes don't work justine can consider us as "official" Mn bobbies!

What ya reckon?

Wendyjayb · 07/02/2008 11:15

God help us all if you 2 are put in charge..pmsl

whomovedmychocolate · 07/02/2008 11:25

Dang they found a solution

Awww I've be sharpening a stick ready as well.

Tech - any advance on 'no' on the 'if you type the word 'hun' in a post, it autocorrects to read 'I am a twonk'?

twoplusonemakesthree · 07/02/2008 11:37

Just a suggestion but can all items for sale be on one thread and not single items on a million threads which pushes other peoples ad's further down straight away?

JustineMumsnet · 07/02/2008 22:31

Yes agreed CD - we'll make that a rule so if folks do it more than once we'll get tough.

JustineMumsnet · 07/02/2008 22:34

twoplusonemakesthree this won't really work if the for sale items belong in different categories and in away maybe it would be better if each item were listed as a title which would make the list easily searchable?

MamaG · 07/02/2008 22:57

still think my idea rocks
