If I wanted to quote someones name I used to use the* now it doesnt seem to work for me, am I doing something wrong

Sometimes you want to refer to a poster by not address them directly. The old MN convention of quoting their name in bold served this purpose well. Also, @ is sometimes seen as rude or intrusive if the person is a regular on the thread. It's useful for calling a poster to a thread if they are not on it appear, or if they have not posted on it for a while.

I, too, am finding that my formatting does not always display, particularly if I have posted on my phone and then visit MN on a laptop.

Hello @thereisonlyoneofme as pp have said, if you @ someone, they will be notified if they've turned this on in settings. The option to bold text is at the bottom of the message box. Let us know if any problems.
