This photo is a constant on my thread. It's so weird and I'm assuming it's an advert but have no idea for what? Can we have something different please?

Ignore I think I've got rid of it

It's everywhere, on all my threads. Hate it.

AWaferThinMint · 03/01/2023 11:00

How did you get rid of it?

TeaStory · 03/01/2023 11:03

It’s an advert for TikTok

ThePoshUns · 03/01/2023 11:26

I pressed x in the bottom left hand corner of the photo it took me to Google ad preferences and said not interested. It's still there though. I just hate the pouty face of it

Horrible picture, keeps appearing.

JoMumsnet · 03/01/2023 12:00

Hi @ThePoshUns

Thanks for flagging this. Is there a blue triangle and cross in the corner of the ad? If so, it's an AdChoices advert, meaning it's not something we've placed on the site ourselves. You should be able to click on the cross and select the option to not be shown the ad in future.

There was a recent thread about the same ad, here - Unsettling advert.

Here's what we said on that thread:

If you see this ad again, can we please ask that you set your device to airplane mode, then click on the ad? This will bring up the URL but you won't load the page. Then share the URL with us. Sorry for the faff, but this will help us identify what the ad is and if it's inappropriate, we can prevent it from showing again. Thank you.

ThePoshUns · 03/01/2023 12:33

Thanks it does seem to have gone now, just getting Boden and Sweaty Betty ads now which are more appropriate.

Thanks @JoMumsnet next time it appears I'll try that

HebeMumsnet · 04/01/2023 11:33

Hi there @SpringIsTooFarAway . Thanks for this. We'll pass it on and get that looked at now.

HebeMumsnet · 04/01/2023 11:49

Hi again, everyone. We've had a closer look at that ad. It is legitimate - it's an ad for TikTok - so not something we can remove, we're afraid. Not to everyone's tastes clearly but not something that should cause anyone concern at least. Hope that puts your minds at rest a bit.

AutumnCrow · 04/01/2023 11:55

This sort of bonkers advertising is why I've installed an Ad Block, which seems unsupportive of Mumsnet who need the ad revenue, but needs must and all that.

I'm happy to look at fishfingers and even the occasional pair of £430 shoes, but not this sort of shit.

SpringIsTooFarAway · 04/01/2023 13:37

It's weird and disturbing. Why can't you do anything about it? Are you legally obliged to accept any advertising TikTok wish to promote even if it's inappropriate and your users say they don't want it?

Btw having following your advice, even with my phone on airplane mode as you suggested, I am now seeing this ad repeated on almost every thread I look at. So somehow they clearly still registered that I clicked it: please do not asvise people to do that again. I tried to help and am now being forced to look at this disturbing image repeatedly.

SpringIsTooFarAway · 04/01/2023 13:41

Not to everyone's tastes clearly but not something that should cause anyone concern at least.

You really don't think it's concerning? What is it even meant to be? Distorting human faces to look like aliens?

TeaStory · 04/01/2023 13:47

Goodness me, don’t ever let some of these posters in a Hall Of Mirrors at the funfair!

ThePoshUns · 05/01/2023 00:10

It's come back again. I find it really unsettling

OP posts:
Spaghetti201 · 05/01/2023 00:24

My brain blocks out all the adverts now, I don’t even look at them. Just scroll past a blur of images until I see text.

BoganKiwi · 05/01/2023 00:27

I had a really really unpleasant ad warning of Hepatitis on my app for months. A really unsettling close up of an old man looking sad.

I clicked the ad preferences button so many times and used different combos of 'I hate this don't show me this again' and yet it still persisted!

Would be awful if it was something truly triggering given it was impossible to get rid of.

lisalisa · 05/01/2023 00:34

I don’t see any ads at all . Click reject all cookies each time

People have a choice whether to go into those.

Effieinamaisonette · 06/01/2023 02:35

I have the same advert all over. I had no idea what it was for.
