What's the point of the 'watching' button?

15 replies

BlueBlueCowWondering · 17/11/2022 13:56

For me it lists exactly the same threads as 'I'm on'

If I bookmark threads then I still have to find and click on the thread to find my place. Am I doing something wrong?

It's for watching threads you don't want to post on

TwoRockSalmonAndAHaporthOfChips · 17/11/2022 13:58

You can watch a thread without having posted on it. They are two different functions. Click ‘Watch this thread’ on any of them and it will be added to your watching list, and you can see when there are new posts.

I get irrationally annoyed with people posting just an f or a full stop so they can watch, when there’s a big purple button which makes it happen without you doing that and contributing nothing to the discussion.

But how do I'put' threads in there?

Just watch them!

If you're on the iOS app slide the title to the left

MaMisled · 17/11/2022 14:00

Hit the watch button!

If you click "watch thread" (on Android Chrome it's in the down button at the top of the thread) then it gets added to your watch list.

Then if you bookmark a post clicking on the thread from your watch list takes you to that post.

SalviaOfficinalis · 17/11/2022 14:04

Little arrow at the top right of the thread, click it and it gives you lots of options including “watch this thread”. I never use it though.

BlueBlueCowWondering · 17/11/2022 14:06

Thanks. Was trying to use the three dots at the end of a post rather than going back to the beginning of the thread.

Hi OP

As above!
You don't have to post on a thread to watch it - unlike I'm on.
Good for the lurkers. Flowers

@JaneJeffer and @MaMisled
why was you reply like that? No help at all really.

@BlueBlueCowWondering you're welcome Hmm

3catsandcounting · 17/11/2022 14:14

JaneJeffer's and MaMisled'a replies were the opposite of unhelpful! 🤷‍♀️

Mydoghealsmyheart · 17/11/2022 14:19

I’m watching a couple of threads but am not getting any notifications. Is there an issue does anyone know?

BoreOfWhabylon · 18/11/2022 14:56

@Mydoghealsmyheart you need to set your preferences in 'Customise' (see screenshots)
Don't forget to click 'save' when you're done!
