Zombie threads.

There are an abundance of zombie threads (from 2007) appearing on Active, as well as under certain topics. Especially AIBU.

It seems an account is commenting under all of them, which then brings them up to the top.

Is there any way of blocking the account doing this?

Think the account is WayBackWhen07 or something.

Hi @ObjectionSustained this is a troll intent on causing carnage by reanimating old threads, we're afraid. The threads should not be in active for much longer. Thanks for posting.

PurpleButterflyWings · 09/11/2022 19:34

Wonder why they do this? Seems so weird and pointless and daft!!! EEEEJITS! Hmm

Sorry you are having to tolerate this crap @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet Flowers It must be causing so much extra work and hassle for you all.

RambamThankyouMam · 09/11/2022 20:04

Just lock all threads after a year of inactivity.

It isn't rocket science.

mistlethrush · 10/11/2022 14:48

It's happening again today with the same poster again picking 2007 threads. I've seen at least 3 in the last 10 mins...

KatherineJaneway · 10/11/2022 17:29

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet Hi, is there not a way to lock the threads when you delete the post that bumped the 2007 threads please?

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 10/11/2022 19:47

It's getting right on my nerves I've clicked on 3 in the last 5 mins!!!!!

(You sad sad little person if you're reading this troll face!)

IncompleteSenten · 10/11/2022 19:56

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

Can I be nosy and ask why mn does not want to lock old threads?
It's certainly possible to do so so there must be a reason why you prefer to keep them open.
I'm just curious

picklemewalnuts · 10/11/2022 20:00

If we don't comment, they don't dominate active, and the troll weeps.

If we don't comment, they don't dominate active, and the troll weeps.

But loads of people start to comment and the thread takes on a new life of its own

picklemewalnuts · 10/11/2022 20:22

Yes, but once you know... much better not to comment.
Posting 'Zombie!' or 'effs sake why are you doing it @annoyingswine.!, just feeds the troll.

AnneLovesGilbert · 10/11/2022 20:25

I don’t see why they aren’t locked after a certain amount of time, like nearly every other forum does.

Even without the stupid new troll people often google stuff, find an old thread and resurrect it either by accident or on purpose. Frustrating.

tribpot · 10/11/2022 20:26

If MN doesn't want to lock them as a matter of course, why not lock them as soon as a zombie has been to visit?
