What about one of those "the boss is looking I need to look busy" things?

What do you think tech? Found one here yesterday (this is what you get on screen if you click on the one on lastminute.com) and could do with it now as am illicitly mumsnetting at work (well, managed 5 months without doing it which isn't bad!). I know you're busy and it's another thing but just wondered if you'd considered it. Or is it just me who's not really supposed to be here?

What a super idea

JoolsToo · 30/11/2004 12:36

www - marvellous - I MN from work everyday! To hell with them

RushingAround · 30/11/2004 12:54

ROFL - and here I am supposed to be reading some ever-so-serious statistics about fraud in Europe.
Just multi-tasking, like all women...

Well I've been surfing MN for the last 2 months and my technique is to have a v busy word doc open in the background and MN in a window at the top 1/4 of the page. Looks like I'm still working then!! But agree that a button would be fab. Pretty pweeeeease you gorgeous tecky tech you.

Carrie (mumsnet) · 30/11/2004 14:44

Great suggestion www, but what if the button comes up with something wholly inappropriate to your work, wouldn't that take a bit too much explaining?

I'll alert tech to this but he really is snowed under so can't promise anything. Quite like skiiingmummy's suggestion - what a resourceful lot you are.......

throckenholt · 30/11/2004 14:50

I agree with Carrie - it would be bound to look out of place on my screen !

Take your point Carrie! Hmmm, but what if it was something called 'how to be a better employee: ten steps to make your manager's job easier' - surely we'd all be 'allowed' to have that open? Ha ha. Maybe not. OK, will just have to minimise this damn fast if said boss comes along.

Yup, Carrie, my boss would be totally suspicious if he saw me looking at management style pie charts and bar charts!! I always kid myself that the mumsnet talk section looks vaguely like some of the java developer threads that I sometimes surf for work purposes!

I did ask for a black and white option a while ago - the blue lines are really conspicuous.
www - do you use ALT =Tab to switch between open windows? Then you can have a relevant doc open as well and it's far quicker than minimising with a mouse.

WideWebWitch · 30/11/2004 21:01

My boss stode into the room earlier today and I found out just how quickly I am able to click the X in the top right hand corner of my screen! Black and white would help I guess.
