Request for webchat on supporting women experiencing dv

Hello, MNHQ.

We have so many threads on MN where women are in need of help and support in a dv or abusive situation.

Would you consider hosting a session with Women's Aid or Refuge or similar to give us more info on how to help/support?

I appreciate the best option is to contact the professionals, but might it be useful to even inform people using MN in general how to approach and best support, and things to say/not say?

Thanks.

I support this - MNHQ you used to be shit hot on not tolerating victim blaming and the verbal kicking of OPs who are in vulnerable and isolated situations and yet there is a thread running now doing just that, unsurprisingly, the OP of the thread has disappeared from posting on it.

Another issue, you recently took down a thread at the OP's request (which I agree with) due to the derailing, one particular poster was the one culpable for the derailing, this is not on, that poster and those who joined in should have been deleted. Yet another woman lost support when she needed it.

Thanks, Vest, yes its that post that has prompted me to make this one.

As MN has women posting looking for help, who are in very vulnerable - even dangerous - situations, there needs to be a decent understanding of the dynamics of abuse and anyone victim blaming or making false equivalnces could really risk endangering a woman and/or her children.

There's so much of that on that thread. (Yes, some has been deleted, but people keep popping up with more victim blaming).

Thanks @ArabellaScott we'll have a discussion about this.

Thanks, YetAnotherBecky.

I know an open anonymous internet forum will never be the ideal place for support, but education could perhaps be helpful?
