Threads deleted

I had quite a break from Mumsnet, and have recently been on here a little more.

Can I ask why threads get deleted? I've been on several recently which have been.

I can understand ones where someone is at risk, or the content is unacceptable, but these just seem to be just differences of opinion.

Has Mumsnet's stance changed or have I just not been keeping up!

Hi OP

Threads can be deleted for different reasons, so it really depends.

Trolling, privacy concerns and breaking talk guidelines are all frequent reasons.

You should be able to see the deletion message which will explain the reason for us removing the thread - but we're always happy to clarify further. Drop us a line at [email protected] and we will do our best to help!

Thank you. It just said at the OPs request.

It's not important I suppose.

@LilyMumsnet do you ever update the message that says you are taking a look at a thread behind the scenes with the result of your looking?

Occasionally we will reinstate a thread and we'll post on it letting everyone know!
Chances are, if the deletion didn't change, then we weren't satisfied that the user in question was posting with the best of intentions.

Was it the stag do thread?
If so I wondered as well. I don't get how it would have been trolling, or privacy concerns and unless I missed a load of posts on there how did it break talk guidelines?
It really puts me off using the site when threads where people have given advice then get deleted for no reason. It's a bit like thanks for your advice but no thanks. A waste of everyone's time.

Hi again @fruitstick .

If it was at the OP's request, it's usually that they've written in to us and are worried that the information they provided was too outing or that they have already been outed in real life.

We also often get requests to delete a thread if it's ended up in the tabloids, understandably.

Less frequently, we get people who have just regretted posting for one reason or another and are finding the whole thing incredibly stressful. We do try not to delete entire threads as we know how annoying it is when users have taken time to offer advice and support and then the whole thread just vanishes. Also, where possible, we like threads to stay up so they are there for anyone coming along in the future who might have the same problem and benefit from the advice given. So it is a last resort, but we've no wish to make anyone's life any harder than it already is, so if someone is really distressed we'll do what we can to help. That might be editing a thread or moving it for them or if there's no other solution, we do sometimes delete threads in their entirety.

Hope that gives you a bit more info into it all anyway.
