Notifications - a mind of their own?

The site went down for me for around 10 minutes just now. I’m now back in and had a couple of new notifications - they’re both threads from 2006, which is way before I joined the site.

Anyone else had this problem?

As an addition, why do new paragraphs STILL not automatically start with a capital letter?

I've marked all as read now, but why am I watching threads I haven't even been on? Or marked as watching??

Notifications - a mind of their own?
yellowtwo · 13/10/2022 14:22

Parmesam They are doing some update, lots of users have the same issue.

Igotjelly · 13/10/2022 14:24

Still not working, i'm getting notifications for threads I've never looked at and none for the ones I'm following.

LilyMumsnet · 13/10/2022 14:46

Hi all

Please can we direct you to this thread: www.mumsnet.com/talk/site_stuff/4654397-latest-release-changes-to-notifications

We're aware of the current issues and are working to have them resolved as soon as possible. Flowers

Lunde · 13/10/2022 16:51

Is the site being hard to access part of the same issue?

Keep getting error messages
504 bad gateway
or
Error 500 "Apologies, our server seems to be having a moment"

TigersAndToucs · 13/10/2022 16:58

I wrote this on the thread about the updating but think it may be pertinent to put here too:

I too received loads if notifications for threads I’m not on or watching.

I appreciate its an error from the upgrade but please note that one of threads I was wrongly notified about was quite triggering for me.

I assume it’s the same for other posters. If for example you’re infertile but want children, then it could be upsetting to get notifications about ‘a thread you’re on’ when those threads are pregnancy & TTC. Which are two threads I was notified about.

This isn’t something your explanation and apology has specifically covered, and while I know there’s little you can do about it, it’s important for MNHQ to understand that the notifications may be a little more than just an irritation.

I dearly wish MN was making enough money from this great forum to employ a really good IT team so updates went unnoticed. This doesn’t need to happen!

BakeOffRewatch · 13/10/2022 17:18

Not resolved for me

ReformedWaywardTeen · 13/10/2022 17:26

BakeOffRewatch · 13/10/2022 17:18

Not resolved for me

No me neither, 78 notifications and I had marked the original 50 as read

Hayliebells · 13/10/2022 17:47

My notifications are still all weird. No notifications for threads I'm currently following, and loads from threads years ago, which I have had nothing to do with.

AlsoknownasOther · 13/10/2022 17:55

I'm just wondering how it choose the threads to show me, they feel a bit pointed

Overweight, overdue, overtired, over-emotional - It's October!!! The final countdown... would be me minus the overdue bit.

Teeth: Anyone have the address for that website please? - As I sit here with terrible teeth waiting for a bridge or implant on a front tooth.

Monday FLY - Clear out the master bedroom - this would've been life changing for me if I'd managed to get passed clean the kitchen sink

REP22 · 13/10/2022 18:00

Me too, I've got 50+ notifications from threads I've never visited! I thought my account might have been hacked and that there might have been thousands on willie pics posted on random threads under "my" name! Phew!! 😳

REP22 · 13/10/2022 18:01

*of. Thousands OF willie pics posted. 🙄

Furries · 13/10/2022 18:44

I’m a bit gutted I can’t do the MNet Xmas meet-up on 18 November 2006 - over 109 people signed up for it 🤣🎄🎅🏼

😂

I had notifications to parts of MN I didn’t know existed.

And I know now from a thread title I was notified about that many women in a historical antenatal thread are heavily pregnant and determined to have “LOTS OF SEX!!!” I might reply and ask us they succeeded 👀

MsFannySqueers · 13/10/2022 19:44

Yes this happened to me random notifications. Some poor woman’s water’s breaking ? Also what happened to the thread that the OP started regarding her GP insisting she had anxiety despite a consultant psychiatrist giving her a different diagnosis? It disappeared during the MN website meltdown but other threads didn’t.

KitchiHuritAngeni · 13/10/2022 20:16

I'm getting notifications from other people. I have 50+ sitting there and if I click on them they are threads I've never read, and it goes to posts of different people.

BakeOffRewatch · 14/10/2022 08:29

Yes I’m on a due March 2007 thread, wishing those people luck with their 15yo! Can you imagine they didn’t know what they were getting themselves into with 2020 and 13yo :(

Igotjelly · 14/10/2022 08:31

i’m still not getting notifications when people post on threads I’m on.

WahineToa · 14/10/2022 08:47

The thread Lily linked to above has a tech dude on it now if you’d like to put your comments there

BakeOffRewatch · 14/10/2022 08:58

Thanks @WahineToa , have posted over there now www.mumsnet.com/talk/site_stuff/4654397-latest-release-changes-to-notifications
