Whyfor is it not possible to get ones own name back apres flouncing, s'il vous plait?

I'm sorry to be a pain but wondered if there's a simple thing that can be done so people who have deregistered temporarily for whatever reason, are able to reclaim their name on return?

Why are names kept in a pile never to be used again...is there a time limit on it...etcetc.

Thanks ever so much if you can help x

I've checked this with the techs and the reason you can't get your name back is that it's stored against your Mumsnet registration number rather than your email. When people de register and then come back they get a new registration number, hence the lack of access to the old name.

Best option is not to deregister . Bit if folks need a break from Mumsnet as we all do from time to time, just take a break but leave your registration in place.

If you do deregister and want to come back, you can usually get your name with a slight variation on it eg a number or extra letter.

Does this help?

i wanted a break and didnt think i had the willpower to stay off... so i got dp to block the site through the router, which worked. and i didnt have to deregister. [smug]

You know, so many people do the whole
public, flamboyant flounce - slink back in and hope folks don't laugh too much
thing that I am surprised you haven't made the whole de-register process something that you have to confirm after 7 days in order for it to take effect! (like changing your gas company! )

You know

Mad
you're all bitches I'm going
thread

deregister

account deactivated for 7 days

get email saying please confirm if you intend to de-register

and only if you confirm at that point, will the account deregister.

This is a site mostly of women. We should have PMT protocols!

if yopu ask nicely you can get your name back

FrannyandZooey · 24/01/2008 17:36

"deregistered temporarily"

I think this is the problem

don't deregister unless you are finished for good!

StealthPolarBear · 24/01/2008 17:37

oooh fa did you flounce? I missed it

Flllightattendant · 24/01/2008 17:39

Thanks Carrie.

I realise it was stupid to do it. I promise never to do it again...I just miss being 'me' and everyone has trouble spelling my name with 3 L's in it

But I know you are very busy.

Thanks anyway

can i ask why people de -register - and wtf are you deregistering from?

if you flouce why not just simply fuck off for a bit ?

i dont get this deregisting malarky - deregistering from a newsletter and CAT? or ...what?

quite frankly i think that if people deregister in a fit of hiss then hard shit

Flllightattendant · 24/01/2008 17:40

No not really flounced, just got fed up because I was feeling miserable and thought everyone hated me.

Next time I will get over myself

4 Ls would be pushing it.

Flllightattendant · 24/01/2008 17:41

Thanks Custy

Not hiss

Flllightattendant · 24/01/2008 17:42

It isn't very nice thinking everyone hates you and you'd better get your coat.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 24/01/2008 17:43

Good well I hope you have realised you were being silly about everyone hating you
Not the name thing though - I can never remember, did you used to have 2 ls?

Flllightattendant · 24/01/2008 17:43

just the one, stealth

Oh those were the days...

Hecate · 24/01/2008 17:43

Seems like logging off is like walking away, whereas de-registering is like stomping out of the room and slamming the door, hard. (and then opening it in order to slam it again, harder. )

Hecate · 24/01/2008 17:44

A good hard slam can be very satisfying!

Tortington · 24/01/2008 17:45

i don hate you in anyway - in fact i am ambivolent - am just asking some questions thats all

peace and love xxx

Flllightattendant · 24/01/2008 17:45

Yes but I trapped my fingers in it Heck. It was self-slamming.

OP posts:
ZippiBabes · 24/01/2008 17:45

i deregistered two or three times last year..didn't announce it on mn first tho so not necessarily slamming the door

Flllightattendant · 24/01/2008 17:45

AMBIVALENT custy! is not good enough!!!!!!

So FA... Judging by the fact you now have three L's in your name, can I make a guess that it wasn't your first deregistering flounce!?

Flllightattendant · 24/01/2008 18:15

I can't answer that Els, I'm not here any more
