For wanting to know why the ‘Did I do something wrong?’ thread was deleted?

I was on the ’Did I do something wrong?’ thread late last night. Was mundane, no argy bargy.

Just clicked on it this morning to see it was deleted for ‘breaking Talk Guidelines’. Huh? If the OP was trolling then MNHQ always say that, so what on earth happened?

Yes this is a TAAT but I’m asking here instead of in Site Stuff for traffic.

So many seemingly innocuous threads are deleted. I get it, if it is discovered that a poster is a troll, but I can't imagine they all are? Weird.

RandomPenguinHouse · 20/09/2022 09:49

More and more are getting deleted. But MNHQ usually say when they think the OP is a troll. In this one they didn’t and I can’t think how it managed to break talk guidelines for another reason!

I was also on it and was puzzled to see it deleted this morning too.

timeofillusion · 20/09/2022 10:24

They've done that a lot recently. 'We decided it was a troll' (so what, it was funny) 'It wasn't in the spirit' (a.k.a. we're ardent royalists and won't allow you to post if you're not)....

britneyisfree · 20/09/2022 10:28

I put up a post the other night saying how much I love Mumsnetters (GinGrin)

A few trolls did come but generally it was a nice thread, people being grateful for Mumsnet and it getting us through some tough times. By time I woke up it was deleted because they needed to look behind the scenes. No one's contacted me so fuck knows what they are doing

EspressoPatronumm · 20/09/2022 10:29

The 'why were are you awake' thread was deleted too

carefullycourageous · 20/09/2022 10:31

I feel like there are so many deletions. It puts you off posting!

Lycanthropology · 20/09/2022 10:37

Yep! I've also started an AIBU thread about this self same issue, though it was prompted by the deletion of another, completely inoffensive thread.

Most annoying!

DialSquare · 20/09/2022 10:38

Just checked again and the message has changed. Looks like the OP was a PBP.

For wanting to know why the ‘Did I do something wrong?’ thread was deleted?
Vapeyvapevape · 20/09/2022 10:42

It was so obviously a troll (my troll radar has finally kicked in ) . The deletion message has been changed for this but I wish they would give a more comprehensive reason for deleting threads , rather than just the 'breaks guidelines' .

RandomPenguinHouse · 20/09/2022 11:07

Thanks for replies, good to see the deletion message has changed to explain. Perhaps MNHQ saw this thread Wink

Yes @Vapeyvapevape it was obviously a troll to me too; clue us in the amount of detail given over boring things. It was harmless though and I didn’t report it. I’m not surprised it was deleted for that reason but I was surprised that the original deletion message didn’t say that.

There’s quite a bit of variation in the details and reasons given for why posts and threads are deleted. Clearly dependent on who is doing it at the time. To avoid confusion, MNHQ need to make sure the admins all follow the same wording near as dammit for different types of deletions.

They always delete the fun threads Sad

Lycanthropology · 20/09/2022 12:13

@RandomPenguinHouse
At least you have some resolution.
I had a message from HopeMumsnet saying sorry, it was her fault, she'd deleted the thread. There were lots of troll threads around, but a reason should have been given for deletion of whole thread, even if troll.

I hadn't even mentioned which thread I was talking about!!
I think she must have presumed I meant the same one as you, or another mentioned on the thread but not by me. Annoying.

Lycanthropology · 20/09/2022 12:13

Sorry, all that was on my similar thread, I meant to say.

LivMumsnet · 20/09/2022 12:20

Sorry about the generic deletion message. We know that folk prefer a more 'concrete' deletion message when we take down a thread.

With this particular thread, it was one of several threads started by the same troll and to save time, we deleted them all at the same time, hence the standard message.

We know that's not ideal but when we're very busy it's sometimes an admin decision we have to make. Do remember you’re always welcome to drop us a line if you want more info about a deletion.

RandomPenguinHouse · 20/09/2022 15:15

Thank you @LivMumsnet for explaining, appreciate it.

It was obviously not real. There’s loads of them like that, I’m amazed people fall for some of them.
