Telephonic? For starting at least 8 threads and counting in the space of 10 minutes only for all to be deleted in the space of minutes of them being posted? Why just delete threads but not ban them to stop the threads being there?

AllTheCarsForMe · 13/09/2022 00:51

I don't think the night watch can ban people?

ANightwatcher · 13/09/2022 00:52

Because we can't. But please do suggest it to MNHQ because its something we've asked for for a long time

Pixiedust1234 · 13/09/2022 00:53

There's different levels of privilege available to moderating. They might not have access to the ban hammer (although I think they should in obvious cases like this).

Keyansier · 13/09/2022 00:53

I didn't know @AllTheCarsForMe

how could I/we suggest it, @ANightwatcher do we tag MNHQ by adding an @ in front of our posts, or emailing, etc?

Seems ridiculous that you can’t. It would make things much easier for you guys 😕

VestofAbsurdity · 13/09/2022 00:55

What on earth are they doing? What a sad life they must lead if this is the pinnacle of their achievements and entertainment of a night.

You could report this thread, or start one under the Site Stuff topic. I'm pretty sure doing @MNHQ, contrary to what many people think, doesn't do anything.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/09/2022 00:59

It certainly seems like it'd be a good idea if the Night Watch could ban or at least suspend posters if they've had more than one or two threads or posts needing to be hidden.

Pixiedust1234 · 13/09/2022 01:02

if you start one in site feedback please link it here. I would love to sign it.

This thread is in the site stuff topic. I just thought it was strange that threads were getting repeatedly deleted within minutes of the troublesome OP posting them but the troublesome OP wasn't getting deleted (but people have now explained why so I understand now)

It certainly seems like it'd be a good idea if the Night Watch could ban or at least suspend posters if they've had more than one or two threads or posts needing to be hidden.

This person (and not sure if they were also the other person that were starting similar recent threads on the same topic) has had at least 12 in a row that got deleted straight away, so yes, I agree that people can be at least suspended if they do this repeatedly. @MNHQ just in case it works and you read.

Yes.... I think tonight's little visitor is making the case for an extension of the Night Watches power to be extended.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/09/2022 01:10

Oh... sorry OP! Blush didn't read the board title... well, MNHQ will see this in the morning.

I'm not sure who the night watchers are and if they are regular posters and might delete if they don't particularly like a poster, or a thread, so not 100% sure on that, but this poster is clearly taking the piss and is obvious is a troll because so many threads are being deleted straight away after they posted as they all say the same (uninteresting) thing.

Surely it's getting to a point that this person who ever they are needs to be spoken too by the police. I am not technology knowledgeable enough to know if he/she can be traced.
If this was the 'real' world and not just online it would be classed as harassment and stalking.
It's getting ridiculous. @MNHQ you really need to do something.
(Apologies if you are trying)

CuriousMama · 13/09/2022 01:17

I agree night mods need to be able to at least suspend.

Keyansier · 13/09/2022 01:31

Please don't delete me as this is not my post. But this is what they posted in a thread they didn't even start:

THIS IS MY THREAD YOU CUNTS

(it wasn't their thread, it was someone else's.) Proof for @MNHQ to delete in the morning. The thread: www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4632431-to-ask-you-with-the-rising-cost-of-living-what-will-you-be-cutting-back-on?

I agree MNHQ should re-look at the ability for Night Watch to either ban, suspend or be able to somehow block a poster such as the one from last night posting. The situation last night was extreme and powers could be given to Night Watch for such extreme cases, the amount of threads and posts Night Watch were having to hide was ridiculous a suspension of the poster could have stopped that and it could then be reviewed by MNHQ in the morning.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 13/09/2022 12:03

Hi @Keyansier thanks for posting. Thanks, also, to everyone who reported last night/this morning's troll and thanks in abundance to our Night Watchers FlowersCake

We do have certain controls that should prevent this kind of thing (which we can't go into detail about, sadly, as it will only give the trolls ideas) but we're reviewing what happened now.
