Old threads resurrected

What's going on? Almost every thread I click on is an old thread Confused how are people finding them?

OP posts:

It has certainly been salutary in reminding us to check OP date esp if a thread appears to have sprung into life fully-formed ie 200 plus posts out of nowhere.

Lots of new visitors/members, don't know the etiquette yet? Obvs we shall bash them about the lugholes with our handbags til they DO know [thumbs up]

JaneJeffer · 02/09/2022 13:40

Wouldn't it be a good idea to lock threads after a few months or so and then if anyone needs to update they could request to do so. Now where's me handbag?

Why? If it's OP wanting advice 10 years ago it's one thing, but many of these threads are more broad conversational topics. Why start a new thread on the same topic when there's an existing one from only a few months ago you can join?

BobMortimersPocketMeat · 02/09/2022 13:45

Can’t threads just be automatically locked after a period of time? I’ve seen some that are over a decade old resurrected recently. Surely a couple of years is long enough to keep them open?

Posters are clearly ignoring the red-edged message saying the thread hasn’t been posted on for over a year, so that’s not a solution.

It would also stop spammers resurrecting old threads, getting their posts deleted, and then everyone replying to the OP.

Because @Precipice the moving finger writes; and, having writ, moves on.

Hello!

If you see any zombie threads in active, do report them to us - we can remove them from appearing in the list if they are super old and unhelpful!

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 06/09/2022 09:41

I don't want them closed or removed. Over the years msny people have come back years later to update and it's great.

what I have repeatedly suggested is having the OP show up a different colour (like OP/our own
posts) and STAY that colour not vanish when posted on.

I'd love to know that can't be done.

Where would you have been looking to find this for instance?

Search isn't working so you'd have to scroll back for years. I just think it's weird.
