threads removed for commenters (not OPs) supposedly breaking talk guidelines

Generalizing so as not to be TATT.

I've noticed a few times recently, that a thread will be removed where the OP's thread/OP post will have nothing wrong with it, it's just that presumably a few of the commenters supposedly broke the Talk Guidelines.

This seems a bit mean on the OP and surprising.

Couldn't the supposedly offending posts by others in the thread be removed instead?

I suppose it does depend how many people are responding to a post on the thread that might not be ok and ends up deleted. If there are a lot of them the thread might end up with so many posts which quote a deleted post that the thread becomes hard work for MNHQ and looking messy.

Hi @OldFan - thanks for raising this. We do always try to keep a thread up and running where possible but, as you've said, sometimes the sheer number of deletions and quoted deleted posts tips the balance.

If there's a particular thread you're concerned about, please feel free to mail us at [email protected] - we're always happy to explain our moderating decisions.
