Longer threads take forever to load!

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 31/08/2022 12:31

I'm finding longer threads take an age to load since the rejigging of mumsnet, to the point that I usually give up and don't bother reading the thread. Has anyone else noticed this?

It's been slower overall in my experience but there longer threads are a real issue.

Yes! I was going to start a thread as it's really annoying me.

They take so long that I usually get a message asking if I want to wait or leave the page! It's a nightmare. Am probably missing out on really good threads...

Hi OP

Can we ask what device and browser you're using to access the site?
This can be easily sorted by changing the amount of posts your viewing per page (you can do this in your Mumsnet settings).

I'm using a hromebook and chrome browser.

I use Android and Chrome and have the same issue.

It's since the revamp. It also crashes long threads regularly with an oops something's gone wrong message. It obviously then has to reload and you lose your place. On a recent thread, it did it 5 times in succession and I gave up.

I like to read all on one page but it can't cope with that any longer.

All of them. Have just changed it to 100 and yes, it loads quicker, which is great. Still frustrating not to be able to see them all though! Still, better than it was - thanks for assistance.

I don't want to reduce the number of posts per page; I want the site to work as it used to! It's rather bemusing that MN think we should adapt rather than them fixing the problem!

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 01/09/2022 11:42

I agree. Surely it would be better to fix the problem? It's annoying that since the revamp it's harder to use, requires more effort and consequently, people give up in frustration. You'd think Mumsnet would want it to be as user friendly as possible.

Yes, I have said this on other threads too. I have had MN set to 50 posts per page for years but frequently used to use the "show all posts on one page" function on a thread so I could search back easily through it using the browser search.

Now the only way to do that is to switch the whole account to "show all" which means they take ages to load and it is a pain switching it back and forth.

ShowOfHands · 01/09/2022 12:47

The snap, something's gone wrong page happens to me even if a thread is only 75 posts long. I'm constantly having to reload pages. It's endlessly irritating.

Mine also crashes ALL the time - android and Chrome, also android and samsung internet. I have it set to all posts displayed, but it crashes even on ones under 50 posts. It's very frustrating! Also once it re-loads it often doesn't return to where was bookmarked..

blueshoes · 09/09/2022 13:38

My pages crash regularly over the last few days. Much worse than before. I just have to leave a mn page open for not very long (10 mins?) and when I come back, it has frozen. So I have to close down the window and bring it back again.

I am accessing on a laptop, Chrome. Not fit for purpose.
