Numbers being formatted into unwanted numbered lists

SurinatheFirst · 28/08/2022 17:53

I noticed when a poster starts a paragraph with a number and a space, for example “2 year olds are full of energy”, it gets converted into a numbered list which messes up the meaning.

I’ll try to replicate it here:

14 year olds are smelly

(It should say 14 year olds are smelly)

Thanks very much for flagging this, @SurinatheFirst - it could well cause some confusion!

Could you please let us know which device and version of the site you're using so we can take a closer look into this?

Thanks in advance.

I'm getting this too, on the iPhone app (the iOS is up-to-date).

Me too - also using the app on iPhone

Thanks, SwelegantParty and rocketfromthecrypt - we'll be back with an update as soon as we can.

I have asked about this repeatedly on the long-running thread in site stuff entitled Mumsnet Talk re-platforming. For me it happens when I follow a number with a full stop and is occurring in threads of lists (I am on the 26 Books Read in 2022 thread).

So you can't put for example "2. Book X" at the start of the post as it will revert it to 1. and indent it. The only way to get round it is to use a colon or some other symbol instead. It is really annoying. We don't need autoformatting. IF people want it it should be opt-in.

Mobile version on Safari and desktop version on Chrome.

Hi @SurinatheFirst ,
Thanks for reporting that. That is definitely a bug and we will work on a fix.

@EquallyDivided Unfortunately this is actually a different issue, and is how the text editor works. The text editor we use is a separate piece of software that we have very little control over. So i'm afraid this wont be fixed any time soon!
