Post count in threads

Hi MN Admins - I have a question for you.

The maximum post count in threads is 1000 posts, that I am aware of.

My question is in relation to duplicate posts and if the duplicates are brought to your attention and subsequently get deleted does that affect the post count in a thread?

Should it affect the post count?

Hi @LookItsMeAgain,

Ooh, that's a tough one. I think the post count would remain the same, because when we withdraw a post it's technically still part of the thread - with the username and time of posting listed, but with a deletion message saying 'Message withdrawn by MNHQ'.

Is there a particular thread you're concerned about? And is it because you want to squeeze one more post onto the thread? Smile

No, I was thinking more in general. I would have hoped that the deletion wouldn't count towards the overall post count.

I was thinking (where situations run over multiple threads) that if the post reaches the 1000 limit and there are multiple deletions in the thread, it might be possible for the OP to get one post which would link the threads together maybe? Again, this is more a general train of thought than about a specific thread.

Thanks for clarifying, LookItsMeAgain,

If an OP needs to post one more time on a thread (to link to a new thread, for example) - we'd be able to edit the final post on the thread with a message from MNHQ to steer people in the direction of the new thread, even if the final post isn't an OP one.

We're sure whoever puts the last post on such a thread wouldn't mind us intruding Smile
