Deleted threads

I’m getting notifications of new posts on threads which have been taken down. It’s a minor issue, but a bit strange. What’s going on?

Me too. And emails asking me to check if I was right with my vote on AIBU threads that no longer exist 🙄

Hi @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet happened again. Email received at 23:35 last night. I was already aware the thread had been deleted (only posted on it as a test as it was obvious it would be going!). Screenshot attached.

Thanks for sending that screenshot. It looks like these are actually 'hidden' threads rather than 'deleted' threads. Little difference to you when you can't see them, obviously, but just so you know, it usually means the Nightwatch have hidden them and someone from MNHQ will then either unhide them or delete properly in the morning.

We will, however, look into sorting out the code that will stop you getting notifications for those, in the same way as you won't get notifications for deleted threads.

GCHeretic might that be the case for you, too? If not, do let us know and we'll look at this again.

@HebeMumsnet it says it's both hidden and deleted though?! And I'm sure when it has happened in the past (not super frequently, but enough to be irritating!) they've said deleted and not just hidden. Thanks for looking into it.

Hi again @PortalooSunset - we have to manually remove the 'This thread has been hidden' message when we delete a thread and it looks like we occasionally omit to do this. Sorry!

This is most likely to happen when we have a troll invasion - if we get a high number of reports about a thread within a short space of time, the thread will be automatically hidden. Trolls often post multiple threads, so we hit the mass delete button to remove them all as swiftly as we can but it looks like we're not always remembering to go back and 'unhide' the threads.

We'll try to make sure we always do this in future!
