Surrogacy moan topic or moving them to FWR?

After what feels like the 90000th post on AIBU moaning about surrogacy can MN create a separate topic, or move them to FWR?

As it's offensive to most with fertility issues, many posters usually then start commenting in ways that are offensive to adoptive families.

It's all part of the wider MN 'feminist' rhetoric so want to see if they can be designated for somewhere else, as it just fills the board with hate.

Hi @alphapie please report anything you think we should take a look at. We're not scorched earth about it - but we often move threads to more suitable topics.

Please remember that if you don't want to see a thread you can click the hide button at the top. Thanks.

I report the threads and the offensive posts. although nothing gets done

But posts like those just attract those with issues with fertility treatments in general (and there are many on MN who are groping through fertility treatments or their children are a result of said treatments) or the hideously offensive real parents comments that offend adoptees and adopted parents.

As this type of post is definitely aligned to the GC feminism group I wanted to know if they can be moved there if reported, just like any trans bashing is usually moved there if posted on AIBU. Or can they be deemed not really in the spirit of the site, as all they are doing is bashing parents.

I've been really interested in reading the different views on surrogacy on these boards. It is quite different from the usual narrative seen on the media

I didn't realise that surrogacy was illegal in a lot of countries.

It would be a shame to see such posts be shunted off into the 'naughty corner'.

Surrogacy is controversial, if that upsets you avoid threads about it.

FourTeaFallOut · 17/07/2022 06:45

I think the questions about surrogacy aren't confined to feminist concerns. You can't just dump things you don't like to quieter corners. Or, if we can, can we put all the little misogynist dropping onto multiple threads to derail with inflammatory nonsense into the ebola topic, is that still around?

RedToothBrush · 17/07/2022 07:13

If comments about surrogacy are an issue, maybe surrogacy isn't a good option for you.

People should be able to be honest and speak up about the very real problems with it.

Discussion of the rights of women and children should be encouraged. If thats something you view as problematic, then maybe thats worthy of reflection in its own right.

Unintended consequences resulting in physical harm / abuse / neglect / abandonment should not be covered up or sanitatised for the benefit of people whose feelings might be hurt.

FlibbertyGiblets · 17/07/2022 07:32

I think the rise of and the normalisation of surrogacy is an important topic to be allowed to talk about. As HQ reminds us, if a thread is upsetting, one always has the choice to use the hide thread function.

I do hope you're okay, OP.

I find them informative, topical and thought provoking actually. However you seem to like dropping into threads on the feminist board to try and derail them extremely regularly@alphapie.
I see now you’ve upped your game to trying to dictate which threads go where, as well as trying to shut down discussions you don’t want happening.
