When oh WHEN will you be fixing the god awful search function MNHQ??

It's just so unbelievably terrible

I'm trying to find my own posts under a previous username and it's completely impossible. I'm being shown all sorts of random shit that isn't what I'm searching for, and none of the posts that I know exist. I've ended up having to google my own username.

What's going on with this? Are we getting advanced search back?

I too am finding the search function useless. I couldn't find a post in my current user name which I'd made two days earlier because the search function is so poor. The thread had fallen off my threads I'm on list.

It's shockingly awful and a lot worse than it was before the "upgrade".

Oh good it's not just me! I looked down the list of threads in Site Stuff and couldn't see one so thought maybe everyone else was happy with it.

I cannot believe the site update was released with the search page in such a shocking state. It's a complete loss of functionality compared to before. I don't even want to troll hunt (which I wonder if MNHQ are trying to prevent with this sack of shit search function?), just find my own posts!

Hi @BoobsOnTheMoon - just letting you know that we're still working on the search function (and we're really sorry it's taking us so long to resolve). We’re working on an advanced search that will allow you to search all posts in the same way as before. We'll update again as soon as we have some more news for you but in the meantime, thanks for your patience.

I've just tried again to search posts by an old username and it tells me there aren't any

Mumsnet search has always been terrible. I've only ever had success using google and adding mumsnet to my search

It really hasn't. The main page search might have been terrible, I don't know because I never used it. But the advanced search feature was always accurate and always found everything I wanted it to. You could search by date, username, key words in posts, key words in titles only, specific topics... It did everything and did it well. I can't understand why it's gone tbh!

It dawned on me that Christmas will be a million times harder if advanced search isn’t back - I totally rely on it as a way of gathering present ideas!

@ MHHQ and while you are at it please can you sort out the private message facility. it is terrible now with messages not sending at all at times and you can only write in one continuous paragraph as when you press to start a new line it automatically sends . it worked find before ! !

It’s terrible. I searched test for a book someone was talking about. I know the title and the author both of which were mentioned in the post. I know key words from the post and nothing finds me this post. And one of the search terms I used , was either men or transphobic only brought up two posts in the last week, which I find unlikely.

I agree with this. I used Advanced Search a lot and I miss it.

I get notifications of interesting threads on my Facebook from MN.
When I came back on here and searched for the keywords in the last day… week…month… NOTHING came back.
What’s all that about?
Advanced Search is a POS compared to even the old one.

Hi @flapjackfairy - we're aware of some issues with Private Messages but we're working on resolving them, so please bear with us for a while longer.

When you say that messages are not sending at all times, do you mean you're unable to send PMs to certain posters? Or that PMs that have been sent to you haven't arrived in your inbox? If you'd rather not post any details here on this thread, please mail us at [email protected] so we can take a closer look. If you can let us know which device, which browser and which version of the site you're using, that would be very helpful. Thank you!

We're really sorry for all the frustration this is causing.

We're still working on advanced search - it doesn't exist on the site right now but we'll be back with an update as soon as we have more news.

In the meantime, can you please give us some more details of what you were trying to search for so we can try it out and use it as a test case? If you can also let us know which device and browser you're using and which version of the site, that would help enormously.

And one last question for you, Sgtmajormummy - are you viewing 1,000 posts or are your settings lower than that? We know there are issues with this and we're working on a fix.

iPad, Safari and whatever the most recent automatic update was. I use 100 posts at a time and the Facebook message was the one in the photo attached.

Sure! I’d only seen the thread title on FB so I was working from memory. I did an all topics search for “food, posh, restaurant, home” and got nothing.
I then tried the food topic. Nothing.
So I went back to Facebook, found the post on my feed and went from there.

Hi @Sgtmajormummy I searched for all threads in the past month using the words posh and meals and the thread was the second result. Like you, I had no results for food, posh, restaurant, home. Search will look for threads that include all those words so it's probably a good idea to narrow your search with a time frame and fewer search terms.

I just searched for one word that was mentioned by a poster on a thread yesterday, but got no hits. This word also appeared in a thread from a few months back. I remember the thread, but have no chance of finding it now.

Please fix this MNHQ.

In the meantime: Try a Google search with the words "site:mumsnet.com" added.
