MN now makes my laptop fan start

If I stray onto trashy sites with loads of trashy ads and pop ups etc, my fan will start up.
I've noticed MN does this more often since the 'upgrade'. It's infuriating.

Hi OP

Sorry about this. It could be over heating so might be worth cleaning it out. We haven't had any other reports of this yet, so let us know how it goes.

Remembertotakeabreak · 14/06/2022 20:06

My phone gets hot with Mumsnet too. Especially in the evening when the page is constantly refreshing

SpinMeARiver · 14/06/2022 20:13

I started noticing this too.
And lots of posters have reported on Site Stuff and other threads that their using MN eats up phone battery and affects other tabs that are open.
The only other site I've ever noticed with is a very advert-rich website that I've given up on now completely. How odd.

It’s the horrible ads. Especially the video ones. They take a ridiculous amount of bandwidth

TheOrigRights · 14/06/2022 20:23

Yes, like others say, it's cos it's so full of ads which refresh frequently.
My lap top is fine for everything else I need to do (which is pretty compute heavy).

Please install a free adblocker (I personally use Brave, but there are others out there).

I'll get rid of my adblocker once MN sort out the placement and ridiculous amount of ads.

Obviously MN don't want us using adblockers so it's frowned upon.

Thank you for this. I've never needed to install an adblocker but I've just done so and will use Brave solely for MN use.
