@MNHQ

Is this a new feature? How do I turn it off and why is the spelling American?

Hi, this is probably because we're using a modern post editor now so it adheres to your phone settings. Most other sites on the internet will be the same e.g. Facebook, Twitter etc.

You can manage it in your phone settings if you either want to turn it off or change your dictionary settings to English (UK).

@KatyMumsnet I'm not on my phone. I'm on Microsoft Edge on laptop. This doesn't happen with FB or twitter and my language is set to English UK. I take it there is no way I can turn it off then.

Hi, I think this is still a setting on your laptop so you should be able to turn it off. I don't have access to Edge but I found these instructions that you could try:

  • Launch Microsoft Edge browser
  • Click the three-dot 'Settings and more' button at the upper-right corner of the browser
  • Click Settings and click 'Languages'
  • Scroll down to find 'check spelling' and toggle the switch to off to disable the spell checker
Hopefully, that works!

@KatyMumsnet Thank you so much, I was not expecting you to go to so much trouble! I'll take a look.

Looks like my bullet points didn't take so sorry about the formatting!
