Trending - OP Is missing

Can we hide trending threads, where it’s just a pile on of mumsnetters in an echo chamber and the OP has just wrote a post a ran . Loads of these pop
up in the trending section.

Cant be hard to to mute it from trending, rules should be unless the OP has posted at least two responses to the original and it’s been at least 3 hours. Otherwise it’s a dead thread and a bun fight

I don’t really see how MN could enforce this. The biggest problem on here is members’ expectations of other posters. Posters expect OPs to interact with them, especially if it’s a juicy thread, and they get invested even if it’s a troll.

I work in IT and I 100% know how they can do this, especially given the the latest refactor

It would also reduce the number of troll threads

Hi @PurplePill, thanks for raising this. The Trending box is based on an algorithm and always displays the most viewed threads (which are not necessarily the most posted-on threads).

We are able to remove a thread from the Trending box but we do this only very occasionally, and usually in the case of very sensitive threads.

If you have any concerns that a thread or a poster isn't genuine, please hit the report button so we can check things out back stage. We don't really think we can enforce any time frames on an OP, though. Sometimes life gets in the way and people can't immediately return to their threads, for all kinds of genuine reasons.
