Make all single member usernames on 1 thread the same or highlight posts by op even if they are the same account.

Stops nc failures

That would out accidental name change fails.

What might be better would be to prevent posting under one name if you have already posted on that thread in another name. I could see that might make things slow though.

No don't

Linking user names in any way in public carries the risk of outing NCs that are made for privacy reasons

I think it's up to the user to check who they are before pressing 'post'

Even MNHQ have noted that on long threads it's possible to forget who you are, and so it won't necessarily be counted as sockpuppetry (though some brand new moderators will ban for every instance, so worth remembering and seeking to avoid!)

It won't stop NC failures, it'll just make people sloppier.

And removes the possibility of someone already on a thread contributing in separate persona if thread takes a turn to an area where they have particular expertise but which they don't want linked to their usual name

And the historic aspects don't bear thinking about.

Someone who NCed weekly for privacy reasons might find all their posting history discoverable in linkable form. Stalking made so much easier.

But what it you accidentally post on the thread with the wrong username in the first place? If you’ve posted under the wrong username, if you report Mumsnet will change the name or delete your post.

No thanks, I am on various long running threads and change my name slightly every month or so for privacy reasons, this would completely stuff me up.

I think that is an excellent point.

(It might however be helpful if the OP couldn't accidentally post under another name though.)

Why though?

Why though?

To stop
a) sock puppetry
b) threads getting confused when the OP starts replying under a different name accidentally

Why though?

Socks
And not being able to see if the op updates

I was thinking mainly for the op though
