Functionality to hide posts by a specific poster

BackflandedCondiment · 18/05/2022 13:15

I see a number of threads I am interested in the topic, but where a single poster takes it over and floods it with rantings. I tend to then hide that thread and move on, but would find it better to just be able to 'hide' that poster just for me (maybe with a link that allowed me to show an individual message from a hidden poster).

Is this something that has already been thought of, assessed and rejected as an idea?

People have asked about ot for years and mnhq always so no

Would it really work in practice, though? The posts by that person would be hidden, but the whole timbre of the thread would have been altered by their contributions, half the other posts would be responses to/stimulated by comments you wouldn't be able to see. The whole thread would be a nonsense.

I wondered that myself - but looking through the most recent example that provoked my post, I don't think it would. The poster on that thread is posting the same stuff over and over, all in different wording but essentially the same thing. I recognise their name because they often post the same things on the same topic when it crops up.

So once I'd read enough to hide their posts, I think I'd easily follow along without seeing each specific post. But I might be unique in not finding that annoying Smile

Hi OP

Many thanks for the suggestion. We're always open to hearing feedback!

This isn't something we'd look to implement at this time - we think it would change a lot of context on threads and we're just not too sure that it would function well. But we appreciate you flagging it and we'll certainly bear it in mind. Flowers

MN can't even fix the lack of paragraphs at the moment so I doubt they can manage new functions
