Name changing revealing original name in zombie thread?

There is a weird thing happening on a zombie thread.

www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/277119-for-being-thoroughly-p-d-off-by-the-ritz-hotel?

It seems that one poster’s posts were deleted, but other posters are clearly referring to them, (not quoting) and the name used does not match the name of the poster. I am talking about the poster named “Fluffy something” and other posters refer to her as “cod”.

I assume that “cod” or “Fluffy” had named changed and wonder if this glitch has other implications for name changing, i.e., revealing the original name.

Am I interpreting the whole thing incorrectly? I don’t think so, otherwise, who the heck is cod?

I think it's from when posters asked for their posts to be deleted and MNHQ changed the name of that poster.

Fluffymummy was an amusing choice of name for the coddy one.

Sometimes MN change a username retrospectively to protect the users privacy.

I explained that badly. If a poster had revealed too much over time and wanted their posts to be deleted, MNHQ would sometimes oblige by deleting the post and changing that person's name to something else for those now-deleted posts.

I see. I was worried it might be outing posters, which might still be a concern even if the posts had been deleted.

Thanks for the explanation.
