Still struggling with ads

Hi, @MNHQ

I'm still struggling with the huge ads that take up the whole of my screen. I'm on my phone & that's the only device I have to access MN on.

You can't scroll past them, before you could kind of flick your finger across a small add to get the screen to scroll but now if you just lightly touch the screen with an ad it takes you to that add.
I did that 3 times the other day just trying to read on in a thread & I hadn't even realised that there was an ad right underneath the post (so was wondering WTF was going on!)
Then it's so hard to get the page to scroll because you have to click on the ad.

Is anybody else struggling with this?

Tbh, this combined with the no advanced search & the CONSTANTLY having to sign in is having me read the site much less as I just can't be bothered.

This is what I mean. This ad takes up the whole page & I struggle to get past it as the slightest touch just takes me to the ad.

(Separate thing but my phone keeps changing ad to as or and. Grrrrr!)

Hi @ShermanPea sorry you're having this issue - we're looking at it now.

In terms of having to log in all the time - I'm assuming this is despite the box when you log in being ticked to say "keep me logged in"? Are you on mobile web, or app?

I'm on the mobile site. But with regards to the logging in thing, I don't click 'Keep me logged in' but it used to keep me logged in all day anyway, no matter how many times I came on or off MN, & the only time I'd have to log back in was the next morning.
Now I have to log back in every time I've come off & back on to MN.... But that's probably just how it's supposed to be, isn't it?

I posted on one of the old ads threads before the update & it was better for a while but it's gone back to how it was.

I'm having this problem where you can't scroll past the ads, as soon as you touch it takes you to the ad site.

Same here. It's actually making it so bad I'm not spending as much time on MN which is probably a good thing?! I'm just finding the ads that appear in the middle of threads are freezing and taking up the page. I try scrolling past and my screen is static and then it overshoots and then invariably when I try to scroll back up to get my bearings it opens up the Ad.

I'm sick to the back teeth of the Dropbox Ad which I've accidentally clicked on so many times. I'm sure all your advertisers are probably delighted at all the visits they're getting but I'm not visiting on purpose and close them instantly. So annoying. I've been trying to keep up with the Alison Bailey Tribunal thread today but have given up.

I'm on an android phone using Chrome.

Yes it's really annoying isn't it!
They are also coming up on here in between my 2 first posts.

@ShermanPea they do seem to have gone away today, which is something.

I've only just come on today but they don't seem to be around for me either so far.

Same problem here, you can't scroll past them without opening them and it's sending me a bit bonkers.

On second thoughts I think it might be specifically related to the drop box ads as I have had different ones on this page and they aren't doing it.

Mine are okay except for the drop box ones which are still a nightmare.

@SueMumsnet - recognise you and others will hopefully have been having a well deserved bank holiday weekend but I just wondered if there is a plan to sort this ads issue. These Dropbox ads are absurd. I'm getting them on almost every page and it's making the site very hard to use.

I know I'm gonna sound thick here but what are the Dropbox ones?

They're literally just ads for a service called Dropbox - it's a bit like google drive/ one drive and I was getting millions of ads for it.

I could scroll past other ads for other services and touching the advert didn't mean I had "clicked" it so to speak, but for the Dropbox ones scrolling past but touching it was opening the ads into new tabs as if I had clicked on it.

Interestingly I haven't seen any now and I opened a few threads to check.

Mine are still behaving for now.

I’ve noticed today that mn seems so much quieter that it used to be. There’s a few threads on here which are normally the type to blow up within minutes of posting with pages of replies, no one’s posting though.is everyone just giving up on here?

Ihatethenewlook Your username says it all for me! I'm just not getting on with the new site.

MN used to be pretty much 'open' on my phone all day, just in case I had a spare few mins, but now I'll pick up my phone & think...'Nah I can't be bothered with that, let's find something else to look at'.

The Dropbox ads are back and causing the same issues as before. Tech asked me to send a screenshot but I can't see how on PMs so I'm adding it here...

Gladioli Yes, funily enough I just got caught up in the 'Cant get past the advert to read the post' cycle while trying to read what you had written.
I asked tech if they can't sort it the same as they did the last time but they said they think it's something else... Whatever it is seems very on & off/seems to get better then worse again. @MNHQ

I am unable to read the initial posts as well due to adverts, they cover the second half of them so I don't have a clue what someone is asking. If I scroll up or down it is still covered.
