I'm looking for exactly the same and am also on a laptop / browser. I double-checked with all my add-ons switched to off, and also on a couple of other browsers and couldn't see anything obvious.

OK found it thanks to this thread.

Click on My Mumsnet at the top right » Settings » Talk settings » "On threads show messages per thread: 25 (default), 50, 100, All" (select your option) » Scroll down and click Save.

So can you not set it for individual threads any more?

I think you're right. It doesn't seem to be possible now, or at least I've not found the setting.
