Clicking on a thread opens a non MN page

I noticed this last week and again this morning: on ipad, clicking on some thread titles doesn't open the thread but a non MN page advertising something. Last week it was an advert page for a film coming out, and today it's coffee. If I move to the laptop I can then open those threads without problem.

I haven't noticed it this week, but I did a few times last week, using a laptop. The links were to whatever was being advertised in a long banner down the left hand side of the page.

It was doing the same for me over the weekend when i was on the tablet. Worked fine on the laptop.

It's just happened again with a coffee advert on AIBU. Again, that's on a laptop - MacBook Air.

Happened to me. Four S&B threads took me to the ITV site.

Is it a huge advert that just seems to pop up with a section of the forum page on top and below the advert and you can scroll through it?

I'm getting this today and it's worse than the problem I was having with adverts on my phone a week ago.

I'm on my laptop and using Bing I think.

MN won't get much revenue if people start deserting it due to the monstrous ads that keep getting in the way of content.

Just happened again. It's random rater than when I click on a thread. The one I'm getting is for Northface.

Same. It’s doing my head in - and very much disinclining me to buy anything from bloody North Face.
knittingaddict · 19/04/2022 12:54

I've just realised that it covers part of the thread. Can't read the op at all because the ad is in the way, despite it saying "continue scrolling to see the rest" or words to that effect.

Chewbecca · 19/04/2022 12:56

Northface is doing this for me too.

knittingaddict · 19/04/2022 13:02

Right, that's it. Annoying me too much now, so I'm off to do something more constructive with my time.

Artichokeleaves · 19/04/2022 13:39

Yes Northface destroying multiple threads too today. Refreshing the page occasionally stops it so I can actually read the content.

Two separate problems:

  1. click a link, it opens a non MN page and you can't get to the MN page of the link

  2. Northface opens, blocks the page and content. (And now I'm very put off Northface.)
