When I hide a thread, why does it not disappear from 'TRENDING NOW' at the side of the page?

Just that really... Just wondered @MNHQ why do I still see a thread in the 'trending topics,' even when I have hidden it?

I have hidden loads of click-baity/goady Ukraine and Russia threads (I know not all of them are goady,) and they still come up at the side.

Another example is the thread 'WTF just came out of my arse?' This has been 'trending' at the side of the page since it was first posted at 11am today! Almost all day. I don't want to keep seeing this. It makes me feel queasy! I have hidden 'hide' the thread, but I still keep seeing it in 'Trending.'

Is there any way to delete/hide a thread from 'trending?'

WHY? It's been there nearly NINE HOURS now. 100s of other threads across the boards have been trending and popular today, and yet this monstrosity is stuck at the side!!! 🤮

Sorry but hiding threads doesn't automatically exclude them from trending. But if you report a concerning thread to us, we can always take a look and remove if we think it doesn't belong.

Hi Lily. The one that is 'BLEH' and quite a few people have complained about - on this thread AND on the war topic (when talking about hiding threads,) is the 'WTF just came out of my arse' one. It's a horrid title and it's been trending for NINE HOURS.

@Ohyesiam, first open the thread you want to hide. If you're on desktop click "Hide this thread" at the top of the page, and if you're on mobile click the down arrow in the top right corner under the site logo, then click "Hide this thread".

I'm so sick of threads full of people panicking about Russia being all over the trending topics.

What's the point in being able to hide a thread if it still appears in Trending?

Hello - that thread is no longer trending but in future, please do report it to us so we can take a look and see if it doesn't belong in the trending box!

It's not something we have discussed with regards to hiding threads from trending. It would likely prove quite difficult as the trending box is the same for everybody on the site. However, we'll pass the feedback over to our developers for consideration in the future!
