Quoting posters

Why do I have the ‘quote’ option on some posts but not others?

OP posts:

If a post already has a quote in it you can’t then quote that post

You can't quote a post that already includes a quote. So on this thread you will be able to quote your own OP but not this reply.
DramaAlpaca · 16/01/2022 23:41

You can't quote a post if that post has a quote within it, if you see what I mean. I'm not sure why, but you can't.

All other posts you should, as far as I'm aware, be able to quote.

DramaAlpaca · 16/01/2022 23:42

Ah, cross posted with everyone else!

ClariceQuiff · 16/01/2022 23:43

I'm not sure why, but you can't.

I think it's to stop a 'nested' format on threads.

Which I think is a good thing, I hate trying to follow nested threads.

DramaAlpaca · 16/01/2022 23:54

Yes, @ClariceQuiff I think you are right (and your username made me smile, good one!)

I also hate nested threads, though until you said it I didn't know that's what they are called.

Thanks for answering, nancy75 (and everyone else!)

It's true - you can't quote a post that's already been quoted. You can still do things the old-fashioned way, though, by copying the required text and pasting it between two asterisks (*) or two up arrows (^) so it shows in bold or italic. Smile
