Do you ever reinstate posts?

Just wondering MN, if any posts that are taken down for a closer look are ever reinstated?

Also, why does MN not LOCK a thread (i.e. no more posts can be made to the thread even if the 1000 post limit hasn't been reached) rather than take it down?

Just something that has been on my mind and I've decided to finally ask the questions.

I was pondering this myself yesterday.

They do.
I've seen several threads where mnhq have put them back up.

If they don't get put back up its because either the 'digging' revealed it was a pbp or likely troll, or it was just a massive bunfight and they really can't be arsed.

I've wondered about this too. Why does the message never change? Either they look into them and find they are OK or find them to be trolls. Why not update the deletion message?

I am genuinely looking for an official answer from MN which hasn't been forthcoming.

If you do reinstate posts, do you indicate in the post (or by editing the subject of the post) that the post has been reinstated and you had taken it down for investigating behind the scenes?

Thank you.

We do reinstate posts, yes, if a compelling case is made.
Hope this helps.

Thanks @EstherMumsnet - now you've got me asking why does it need to be a compelling case made in order to reinstate a thread? If the investigations carried out by MN Admins don't discover anything (such as a PBP for example) why not simply reinstate the thread? If necessary put some identifier in the subject of the thread so we can know it's been checked out and let the conversation carry on?

It seems to me that threads get taken down for further investigations to be done and then nothing....they never reappear. Some threads may have had useful information to readers and then poof! it's gone!

I really think a policy change needs to happen here.
