The insidious creep

Can you please do something about this insidious creep of Covid threads which are appearing in multiple areas of the site now.

It’s really annoying when you hide a topic for very good reason then sit down with a cup of coffee for five minutes, go into Active Threads and many of them are Covid related. Often not immediately noticeable because of the thread title.

I know I can hide them but there is a Covid board so people should use it.

One of the (many) shitty things about covid is that it leaches into all aspects of life - relationships, health, work, Christmas, everything really. So as much as you try to confine it to one board, it will infect everything. Sorry it's so hard to avoid.

I reported a thread yesterday and asked for it to be moved, but MN told me that it was a good topic for AIBU and would ""benefit from the thoughts and opinions of other Mumsnetters"

Of course the current situation is of concern, but some of the threads are going back to the original hysteria and are totally repetitive.

I know that I can hide individual threads but I wouldn't have to if people posted in the right place in the first place. It's not that I don't look at the Coronavirus board - there are some interesting threads amongst all the hand-wringing, but I really don't want my active threads list clogged up with "I won't comply" "Should I go to..." "When does the next lockdown start" "Do I have covid" "Should I get a test".

Must be particularly awful for anyone already struggling to process the current situation.

@Iheartmysmart I agree entirely, the last few days have been awful for this.

Perhaps the answer then is for Covid to have its own topic with a variety of sub headings. Similar to @percythewitch I occasionally have a quick look at the Coronavirus board as there is the odd interesting thread but when I feel able to cope with it. I don’t want to see numerous threads about Covid appearing constantly in Active.

I’d say 90% of the threads are “should I still go to this panto / supermarket / out for dinner”

Maybe one super thread of pointless “should I go” questions would do it

Tillsforthrills · 19/12/2021 11:23

Or you could just avoid those and not read them?

And to go with that super threads for how long will it take ti get my test result, how many cases in your area and when will the next lockdown be

At the moment I only get a handful of unique threads in active there are so man repeat ones

IncompleteSenten · 19/12/2021 11:27

It's not black and white though.
For example, sometimes the issue is a relationship one regarding covid and they need relationship advice. The relationship topic is appropriate for relationship advice even if the issue causing the relationship problem is covid related.

Well, an easy way to avoid them is to hide the entire Coronavirus topic.

But that only works if they are in there in the first place.

Of course there will be some crossover if there are relationship issues/travel issues etc but "should I go to the meal/panto/night out"
"do I need to isolate" "is this test positive" "would you get a PCR" "why are my results taking so long" all belong firmly on the Coronavirus board.
