MN HQ,can something be done about constantly repetitive threads about one topic?

I probably don’t need to mention a name for people to know what has inspired this one, but tbh it happens on here time and time and time again.Something awful happens, and before you know it the whole of active is covered with competitive discussion threads.

When Madeleine McCann went missing MN HQ were very quick to remind people to keep discussion to one particular thread, and many others were removed. Can this not become a more regular pattern?

It’s not hard to see what kinds of threads are likely to end up as constant discussion threads, tragidy type threads for instance. There were so many COVID threads that they got their own topic, but I’m guessing that the generally trending discussion will change once another tragidy happens to take its place, but in the meantime could posters perhaps be encouraged to stick to one thread and other threads be reported/deleted?

Agree. Ive hidden loads lately, its really upsetting

gamerchick · 07/12/2021 13:46

As long as the topic is in the title they can just be hidden. The ones where the content isn't visible until your click are irritating though. But that goes for a lot of repetitive topics.

HeartsAndClubs · 07/12/2021 13:48

So many don’t though, and tbh the latest one is nothing short of competitive misery and is really quite distasteful.

There's yet another thread started today about why there was no coverage of the case on This Morning FFS!

I did actually have a look at the replies and was slightly reassured to find that I am not alone in finding it all ghoulish and upsetting.

Given that many posters on here seem to need a trigger warning for so many subjects, it is odd that there are so many threads hand-wringing about the minutiae of what happened.

Disgusting and unnecessary.

HeartsAndClubs · 07/12/2021 14:04

@ percythewitch and the OP on that thread has now come back and said that it’s wrong for TM to have not offered support because they do so whenever there’s a difficult storyline in a soap that’s exactly what happens.

There really are no words.

They won't delete This morning thread.

I've been giving so many threads about this, the worst are the ones that don't make it clear in the title so you open it up to be confronted with more details you really don't need or want to know. I don't understand why people do this.

MichaelMumsnet · 07/12/2021 16:39

Hi all, please report any threads that you're concerned about and we'll take a look - we're always fine to check and perhaps make edits so that the subject is clear. We moved one of the threads out of AIBU earlier.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 07/12/2021 16:53

I did report it as suggested
And you moved it to the news topic
🤷‍♀️

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/12/2021 16:57

@Hobnobswantshernameback I did too and basically got told to hide it.
