Is there a way to hide Trending Now threads?

Hello, I find the Arthur topic to be quite distressing, and really am avoiding reading anything on it. I clicked on Hairdresser's testimony at Tustin trial thread (that is displaying in the Trending Now box on the right of the screen) to 'Hide' it but it seems Hide threads only works if you've posted on them. Is there any way to Hide threads from the Trending Now box?

An easy fix is to switch to the mobile site (you can do this on a browser) and then you don't get a trending box!

You don't have to have posted on a thread to hide it.

You do, however, have to actually open the thread in order to hide it in the first place.

Hiding a thread won't stop it appearing in the trending box if it is a very active thread.

I have some whole topics hidden, but any very active threads in those topics will still appear in the trending box if they are..well...trending.

I would really like this. Sometimes just a thread title is enough to make me not go on to MN for a while, hiding it doesn't help because it can still appear in trending for ages. I'd be happy being able to hide all of trending all of the time.

Hi @ClaudiaJ1,

Can you please let us know which version of the site you're using?

On all versions, you don't have to have posted on a thread to be able to hide it. In the iOS app, you don't even have to open the thread - you can swipe the title to the left and then click on the Hide thread icon. On the desktop site you do have to click to open the thread but the 'Hide thread' button is right at the top of the thread, so in general you'll see the title but not the opening post.

Any threads that you've hidden should then disappear from your list of Active Conversations. However, the Trending box is based on algorithms, meaning it shows the five most-viewed threads, regardless of whether you've hidden them or not.

We are able to remove threads from the Trending box if we feel they're causing distress. We've removed this particular thread as we've received a number of similar reports about it.

Hope that answers your questions.

I'm not sure what you mean by version of the site? But I'm using Windows 10 on a laptop.

I know how you feel @ClaudiaJ1. I don’t want to read them either as I find it too upsetting but a lot of posters seem determined to start detailed threads about every aspect of the case in every topic so they’re hard to avoid. Personally, I find the performative grief and poring over every detail rather distasteful.

@SixQuidGames

I completely agree.

It is ghoulish and unnecessary.
