Why can't I name change?

Through desktop. Settings, etc. I've looked up how to do it but it wont let me

Oh - I do it via my mumsnet/settings and then type the new name I want into the username box. Not having any problems.

Maybe @MNHQ can help?

Yes sorry, that's what I meant. That's how I'm trying to do it, but no luck!

Why do people do this? Can you use a selection of different usernames and why?

Because sometimes people want to talk about a situation that might be identifying, so don’t want it linked to other posts they’ve made. Some people name change regularly to avoid being identified online. Sometimes people just get bored of their username and want a new one. Some people have seasonal usernames - spooky ones for Halloween or a festive one for Christmas. Lots of reasons.

Hi @Lonelycrab - it looks like you're using the app. If so, tap on the three vertical lines in the top right of the screen, then MyMumsnet, where you'll have the option to choose a new username. Type in the name you'd like and then hit the Save button. This new name will then be added to your list of usernames.

@DawnMumsnet im using the mobile version on an iPhone, safari latest update.
I’ve never used the app.
I haven’t had this problem before when I’ve name changed before, not that I do very often at all.

Sorry, so you are! In which case, tap on the head and shoulders icon at the top right of the screen, then Settings, then Change username, then type in your new name - if the name is available, you'll be able to hit the Save button and the new name will appear in your list of usernames.
