Adverts autoplaying music on thread opening

I've been on two threads this morning (at nap time no less) and they've automatically started playing music on opening.

Could you take a look please @MNHQ

OP posts:
FreezerBird · 25/09/2021 11:32

Same here! The music seems completely random as well, something about a dog, and scrolling through the thread I can't see any advert which would have any connection with this. It's impossible to tell which ad is making the noise!

SkepticalCat · 25/09/2021 13:27

Same/similar here.

Audio adverts just randomly playing. I wasn't sure if it was my phone (Samsung/Android) doing it or a specific website.

It just happened whilst browsing Mumsnet and none of the visual adverts matched the audio (this time it was something to do with cutting down on plastics?)

If it is Mumsnet causing it, it's very irritating!

FlissMumsnet · 25/09/2021 20:11

Hi tnetenba FreezerBird and SkepticalCat,

Thanks for letting us know - the fact the audio doesn't match the ads make us suspect this a a rogue ad rather than anything we'd authorise.

We're happy to look into this for you - anyone remember any other details aside from the reduce plastics stuff?

PickAChew · 26/09/2021 08:15

Just had this. Got to the bottom of a short thread and it kicked on and made me jump out of my skin. I quickly navigated away. This sort of crap makes me avoid websites entirely.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 26/09/2021 08:23

That sounds like this. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/4344513-Wtf-MN-Theres-a-Dog-in-the-House-music-no-video

LilyMumsnet · 26/09/2021 09:01

Hi all

As always - can we have devices, browsers and screenshots? It's a big help in identifying these things. Thanks. Flowers

Yes, that's exactly what it was for me.

I can't remember which thread but will screenshot if it happens again. I'm on an android phone, using the website (not app) on Chrome.

PickAChew · 26/09/2021 09:52

There was nothing to screenshot for me. I tried scrolling back up and couldn't see anything so navigated away because it was so loud. Chrome on latest android.

ProfessionalTeaDrinker · 26/09/2021 19:49

I've had this on a few threads over the past few days, it's happened on several threads and not just when the page has loaded either. Makes me jump out my skin! Even happens when my phone is on silent

SpindleWorld · 27/09/2021 06:55

I had this again last night.

It's the same problem described on detail on the other thread, linked above.

Why and how is it playing on phones set to silent??! Posters have been asking this for two and a half weeks.

MartyHart · 27/09/2021 19:12

I'm also having this problem. Chrome browser on android.
It's happening quite a bit. I don't know which ads though. No video just audio.

Shitzngiggles · 27/09/2021 19:17

Same here. Chrome on Samsung.

BanTheMLMScam · 28/09/2021 12:27

Same here Chrome on Samsung and there's no adverts on the pages to match the audio

FlibbertyGiblets · 28/09/2021 13:18

It really upset me when it happened recently.
My phone is set to silent for a reason at the moment.

I don't understand how my personal device settings can be over ridden, quite sinister. I don't like it.

soniamumsnet · 28/09/2021 16:52

Hi @BanTheMLMScam thanks for this report. If you're able to provide a screenshot and also let us know exactly which thread you were on, that would be really helpful. Flowers

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 28/09/2021 17:49

Just happened to me right now, again. Also happened this morning. Was on a thread on AIBU about a woman who's 3yo was in hospital with a chest infection, sorry don't know the title. I took a screen shot of the first advert I came to when I scrolled up, but I actually think (going by the music and what was said in the advert) that it was more likely the top one about skin care.

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 28/09/2021 17:52

@BanTheMLMScam

AIBU Thread title - Hand hold please. DS(3) in hospital with suspected covid248

The ad with the boy on the bike was the 1st ad I came to after scrolling up and was initially blacked out. Pic of the woman sounds more along the lines of what was being played, something about carving out your space and looking after yourself.

Can't remember what I was reading when it happened earlier but I think it was the same ad.

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 28/09/2021 17:56

OK, so just saw what's written at the bottom of the skin care ad. That was what I heard along with background music.

bertdynamite · 28/09/2021 18:01

Just happened to me on the Did I do the wrong thing at my wedding thread. I'm on my Kindle, and its the 4th time it has happened in recent days.

AgentProvocateur · 28/09/2021 18:11

This has been going on (and has been reported) since 9 sept @soniamumsnet

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/4344513-Wtf-MN-Theres-a-Dog-in-the-House-music-no-video

SpindleWorld · 28/09/2021 18:16

@AgentProvocateur is right, and many different MNHQers have asked for and been sent screenshots and details of devices & browsers. I hope someone is collating this info? Because the problem is awfully annoying. And only on MN!

soniamumsnet · 29/09/2021 09:53

Thanks @BuffyTheBuffetSlayer we're investigating this now. Flowers

BanTheMLMScam · 29/09/2021 20:15

It's still happening but its now playing the sound of a gardening advert but no ads on the page match the audio.
I'm on android mobile site

BuffyTheBuffetSlayer · 30/09/2021 00:27

@BanTheMLMScam sorry, I just realised I tagged you earlier instead of soniamumsnet Blush
