Zombie threads in trending

CandidaAlbicans2 · 09/09/2021 07:26

Another one about the age old issue with Zombie threads. Is there some way of preventing Zombie threads from going into the "trending now" section?

And can something please be done about the whole Z issue which has been mentioned regularly for years yet never gets better 🙄 It's bloody irritating to spend time reading a thread before realising it's years old. Perhaps have it so that only the OP can resurrect them?

And before MNHQ say they don't want newbies to be put off with a scary message or picture, because it's not in the "spirit of MN" blah blah (seen that response! 🙄), why is it OK to have the bear pit that's AIBU and say it's just "robust" and people basically need to suck it up. Yeah, sod the newbies then. Yes I'm irritated 😠

And at the least, how about not only having a zombie alert for the resurrectors (unless it's the OP), but have an alert for every message after? Otherwise it gets resurrected and it's not obvious to all subsequent posters. Classic example is this thread where OP is looking for advice about breaking up from her BF...in December 2019!

I agree. With everything the OP has said.

Just look at the thread you’re reading before commenting.

HalzTangz · 18/09/2021 21:00

Surely just look at the date on the opening post?

Geamhradh · 18/09/2021 21:03

@WomanStanleyWoman

Just look at the thread you’re reading before commenting.
Exactly. Is it worth getting all humphy about? I'd like to get rid of trolls, Herbert the Perverts, conspiracy theorists and Us4Them wackos first rather than get aerated about an old thread getting inadvertently posted on.
Geamhradh · 18/09/2021 21:06

And clicking through you can actually see that the poster who resurrected it SAYS she can see it's an old thread but found it and posted on it because she's going through the same relationship issues.
But let's start a thread in site stuff so she fucks off shall we? Bit of empathy no? Hmm

arrangeyourface · 18/09/2021 21:18

I don’t see how it would be hard to create some code to say if a thread was started

ItWasAgathaAllAlong · 19/09/2021 20:23

I've said this before (but got shouted down by a pp) but why can't we have the date/poster who started a thread on the relevant 'home page' of the category? There's a column for who's posted most recently, but no who/when thread was started.

If there was, you could see 'thread started in 2013 by Jane Bloggs', for example, and then know it was a zombie thread straight away. Then you can choose whether to open it or not.

If MN can have a column for the most recent post/who posted it, why can't they have one for who started the thread and when they did that? Confused

Hi all,

No false promises - but we will make sure this gets discussed at the HIGHEST levels* and given due consideration.
