A bit of news from us (nothing bad, don’t worry)

Hi all,

Just a quick one to let you all know that Mumsnet has taken over the running of new mum meet-up app Mush.

Mush aims to connect mothers in real life around their location and child’s ages, and has been vocal about the need for tools to address the loneliness and isolation that new mothers can experience. It’s worked with the NHS and with the Duchess of Cambridge as part of her mental health work with the Royal Foundation, and it’s enabled three million friendships and 25,000 group meet-ups.

Mumsnet has always been about making parents' lives easier by allowing them to connect and share support, wisdom and friendship, and we think Mush is bang in line with that purpose, allowing new parents to find local friends at that point when you most need it - when you have a newborn.

We’re going to run the app as it is for now and just add some links to and from Mumsnet’s antenatal section, as we think it’s a super useful tool for our users

You can find out more about Mush here and download it as a free app if you fancy giving it a whirl. We’d love to know what you think of it if you can spare a mo to report back?

Thanks
Justine

So a rip off of the Peanut app that does exactly the same thing

@Boatonthehorizon

It can mean face but not ugly face hence the adjective ugly.
I have never ever heard it used to tell someone they're beautiful. Look at your gorgeous mush you sexy beast.
ShuddaBeenMe · 07/09/2021 11:21

Mush is offensive isn't it? Like brain turned to mush.

Fetchthevet · 07/09/2021 11:23

What a lovely idea. Would be great to meet up with more mums irl.

Aliceclara · 07/09/2021 11:27

Is it only for new mums?

Journeyofthedragons · 07/09/2021 11:34

Round our way - SE, it meant a man (similar to geezer) or face.

I read all the very cutesy information on the site and yes, it seems to be new mums.

Some of the wording is a bit cutesy
"mummy milestones"

Horehound · 07/09/2021 11:48

What's with the thread title btw? Designed for clickbait.
Why wasn't something about the app put on it?

Weird

Thewiseoneincognito · 07/09/2021 11:54

Mush the traveller term for bloke/man. Own goal MNHQ?

Is it only for new mums?
If you go to FAQ is says dads can use it too.
ThatLibraryMiss · 07/09/2021 18:14

@PalmarisLongus

I do not wish to be at all negative, but is there security and safeguard things in place to stop catfishing men pretending to be new mums and arranging meets with "lonely women" ?
I hope there are more than there are to prevent men asking women on MN to tell about poo and pee accidents and describe their genitals, periods and sex lives, especially as there seems to be no shortage of gullible women prepared to do just that.

How can you be so skint you ask members to pay for Mumsnet premium and then have even cash to by Mush?

Fair question. A few things to say here. 1. Our revenue took a big hit as a result of Covid when the ad market collapsed but it has recovered somewhat since then 2. We haven't disclosed the financials of this deal but suffice to say there wasn't a lot of cash outlay involved 3. We want members to join Premium not out of pity/duty but because it represents something of value to them - we haven't quite nailed that yet but we are working on improving the offer, I promise.

Another way to trawl for user details to spam them eh?

How exactly are you going to keep their data safe, and ensure the general safety of users, given you can't even keep huge numbers of trolls off this site and have had several data breaches here?

Amiwastingtime · 18/09/2021 09:40

I used mush when I had a newborn. Was lovely place full of supportive new parents. Hopefully the nastiness that happens on Mumsnet doesn't ruin it.

But it was launched along with a sob story of how bad your finances were with a very strong undertone suggesting it would be the "right thing" to do if people wanted to use the site. The promises at that point were that it was definitely going to be a worthwhile thing to do and lots of fabulous stuff would be available. The "promise" seems hollow if people have already been waiting this long for something good.

Except Mush was launched about two years earlier I think?

Mush is used to mean friend in Wales too!
