Admin/mods can you advise why you have allowed a poster who had a thread deleted a couple of weeks ago due to 'privacy concerns' post the same thread again this weekend which has yet again been deleted due to again 'privacy concerns'?
Shouldn't the second thread have been taken down immediately as surely if the OP is concerned about her privacy the first time she will surely still be concerned two weeks later?
I just can't see the point! Posters have wasted their time offering advice the first time, and yet again posters have been allowed to waste their time again. It was obvious the second thread would get deleted.

I completely agree with you OP. Interested to,see HQ 's response to this.

MichaelMumsnet · 16/08/2021 07:20

Hi @mummyh2016 - could you report the thread please.
We're fine to take a look but we need a link and some background info first.

mummyh2016 · 16/08/2021 07:44

@MichaelMumsnet the thread has already been taken down, the one from yesterday was
[edited by MNHQ to remove title]
I can't remember the title of the original thread but it will be the same sort of thing. Same poster, exact same discussion. The second thread should've been deleted immediately.
Also shouldn't posters be warned about constantly getting threads deleted? If you've had one thread deleted due to privacy concerns I would've thought you'd be very careful in the future to ensure you don't put yourself in the same position again. If the same poster is going to constantly get threads deleted I'd class then as bad as a troll as it honestly spoils the MN experience.

I agree and actually reported the duplicate thread at the time the first one was taken down.

I don’t understand why the poster was allowed to have a thread about the same issue when they’d just had one deleted because privacy.

RubyGoat · 16/08/2021 13:16

I agree, it often seems to happen when a thread doesn't go their way, they get criticised etc. They then cite "privacy concerns". It's no less infuriating than trolling TBH & posters need to be warned that repeatedly posting about the same thing & then requesting it be removed isn't really in the spirit of the site.

PizzaRegina · 17/08/2021 20:01

Did MNHQ ever provide a response to this?

mummyh2016 · 17/08/2021 23:05

@PizzaRegina nope Hmm

Hi again. There's not much we can say here without starting a thread about a thread.

However speaking generally, we don't take threads down lightly; we'll remove threads where there's a concern that a user may be identified in real life, if we think that it's a troll or a poster behaving badly badly, if there are a lot of guideline breaking posts, if it's overrun by trollhunting, or for other reasons.

We do try to keep threads by moderating individual posts rather than removing them entirely.

However, when there are privacy concerns - for example, posters new to the site may give out too much identifying information - we may take the whole thread down. Sometimes we encourage them to repost without including so much personal info.

As always, if you have concerns about a post or poster then please let us know by reporting. We're always fine to take a look.

Lumpwoody · 18/08/2021 09:54

But @MichaelMumsnet. That op had an identical thread deleted for privacy concerns. And had already started the one that this is about. And that wasn’t deleted.

I’m just struggling to understand how privacy concerns got one thread deleted but an identical thread with identical info wasn’t deleted then. And was left to run for days with people contributing and ultimately was deleted citing privacy concerns.

It just doesn’t seem logical?

ChicChaos · 18/08/2021 10:14

A thread I was on the other day got deleted at the OP's request after only two posts (guess which way the thread was going) Hmm

Now there is a thread up by someone who's had posts deleted for privacy reasons before with a note from MNHQ on it saying it will run. Is that a guarantee of the thread not being deleted for privacy reasons later on? Because it's repeating some pretty vile racist stuff on it, so why is that not only allowed but approved and protected by MNHQ?

poorbuthappy · 18/08/2021 10:16

So basically the same poster can post the same thing over and over again and have every thread deleted for privacy reasons?
But we can't have a TAAT?
How does that even work????

mummyh2016 · 18/08/2021 20:16

@MichaelMumsnet do posters who repeatedly request threads to be deleted ever get a warning or messaged directly about it? As surely it's not in keeping with the website if a poster is constantly allowed to get threads deleted. I can't see how it is different to trolling?

Hi @mummyh2016 just dropping in to say that we'll treat each case individually, and always aim to keep threads by moderating individual posts rather than removing them entirely. Flowers

mummyh2016 · 19/08/2021 16:44

@soniamumsnet but when the same poster repeatedly gets threads deleted you don't do anything is that right? Don't you agree that it isn't in keeping with the site?

OP posts:
BamberGascoine · 19/08/2021 16:48

Why are MNHQ coming on and posting replies that don’t answer the very clear questions asked?
