Yesterday I contributed to a seemingly genuine thread saying I'd had a similar experience with a visiting male worker. I think it ran to a couple of hundred posts. Later in the day I returned to the thread to be told:

Sorry folks - this had to go.

Is it unreasonable to expect just a little more info, e.g. it was a troll, became a bunfight, not in the spirit, etc.?

I've no idea how the thread developed after my own post, but am curious as I don't usually contribute unless I'm convinced that it's likely to be genuine.

OP posts:

Controversial topic
Troll OP
Descended into bunfight
Too many posts need deleting so thread wouldn’t make sense
Anything negative about MM
PBP

Take your pick... 😅

I'm sure this thread will get deleted op ad it's a TAAT but it turned out to be a major troll.

Geamhradh · 03/07/2021 10:15

As long as your rule of thumb is to think that about 50% of threads are made up, then you'll be OK.
The fact this thread had something about "visiting male worker" seems to suggest something pervy? I'd say the ratio goes up to about 90% fake on those.

@Nutrigrainygoodness, how do you know it was a troll - or did it become obvious!

There was one the other day where the op didn't want to have the vaccine yet. It's disappeared but I didn't get a message about it.

Does anyone know what happened?

Said "thread deleted for breaking talk guidelines".

So, probably not a troll, but an astroturfing anti-vaxxer at a guess.

Oneandanotherone · 03/07/2021 11:33

Yep about 50% of the ones I comment on get deleted.

Hello @Westfacing - we're just moving this over to Site Stuff so it doesn't get buried in AIBU. We agree that the deletion message could have been clearer. We think the assumption last night was that anyone who was posting on the thread would not be surprised that it was zapped. It became a series of personal attacks (many by the OP) and we didn't think it could be brought back from that after much mud-slinging.

I don’t understand why TAATs aren’t allowed. What’s wrong with asking about deleted threads, or asking about a thread from a while back that might still be open?
crispsinasandwich · 03/07/2021 16:47

Geamhradh - thank you

BIWI · 03/07/2021 17:31

I think it's OK to ask about other threads on Site Stuff!

Ninkanink · 03/07/2021 17:33

It’s ok to ask for information on threads.

It’s not good form to start TAAT because often people do it as a passive aggressive move and/or to start a bunfight and that’s not cool.

Brefugee · 03/07/2021 22:18

I'd be really happy if the deletion message gave a bit more info as to why, so I don't contribute to a thread to come back and find it gone. It happens too often, and will be the thing that drives me from the site, i think

BIWI · 04/07/2021 09:59

More recent deletion messages do seem to be giving more information about the reasons for deletion, and not just using a standard 'c+p' job, which is much, much better.
